Default I have a problem

I have a gentleman that accepted my offer for his car. The problem I have is that he wants me to add an additional amount to the cashiers check and he will give it back to me when the transaction is completed. In cash. What should I do.

Don't do it! There is NO reason that he should feel the need to take extra money when you are paying with a cashiers check. Just walk away.

If he accepted your price for his car, then that's it! No extra cash. You may never see him again to get anything back. Are you going to get a "receipt" from him for the amount of the purchase? I hope so.

It's one thing to buy products with a mail-in rebate, but it's completely different to buy a car from an individual (not a reputable company) under similar circumstances. It's hard enough dealing with the reputable companies paying on their advertised rebates, but an individual?

ask yourself, would you do the same thing if you were selling you car? yes? ... why? no? probably.
