I disagree. And it is not a "scam" if he actually drives the other car. You will be glad you have a "not so nice" car to drive places like the grocery store, bars, etc.

I have 99 GTP as an every day car and the insurance on my 03 vette is cheaper than what I paid on a 99 CBR 600.

Agent told me that people that have Vettes as 2nd cars usually baby them, don't drive them to work, grocery store, etc. That is why it is much cheaper if you have another car.

Now my driving record is not even close to that bad, and 21 was a long time ago for me. But for $400 a month, it would be worth calling the agent and asking.

Let us know what they say.

1st lesson you'll learn on this forum, you're in OT and you best not expect everyone to be warm and fuzzy. If you want warm and fuzzy go over to C5 General and talk about what color your floormats are. You bring it up here in OT and you're going to get real opinions! Sorry if you can't handle my opinion!

You asked for help, I gave you my honest opinion. What's the problem? If you don't want to hear the truth, then don't ask the question.

We are not miracle workers here son. The bottom line is: you are 21, you have a poor driving record, and you own an expensive, high horsepower sports car. There is no magic fairy dust we can sprinkle on you to make your insurance premium go down. You gotta pay to play my boy.

And if you would like some more bad news you better sit down. Any insurance company doing business in the USA is going to be raising rates yet again to pay for Katrina, Rita and God knows what else before the end of the year gets here!

However, congrats on the Vette and welcome to the forum......

Insurance is what I do...Most of your base rate isw based on on credit history and then add everything up from there..
You should have thought about this before you bought the car...Sorry..but it's true..
Welcome to life..
Good luck anyways...(Drive smart and prove everyone wrong)

Best advice I can give is:

Save the $400 a month and invest in a finance class and perhaps the whole entire education package, and *then* revisit your purchased and insurance cost to determine if that was a wise decision.

Hell, I'm 56 and have problems remembering last week!

Seriously, try Progressive.com. They may be able to help you.

AVOID the marriage thing until you find the ABSOLUTE right one! Took me 'WAY too many years, but the last 14 have been heaven!

Gosh, at your age, I had been in 4-5 accidents (not ONE my fault), had numerous tickets ('71 Mach1), & was married with a baby!

ENJOY THE VETTE!

If you still live with your parents you might want to consider putting them as the primary driver (90%) and you are the secondary driver (10%). That would lower your insurance rate.

Hey I feel your pain, Im 22 and when I was 20 I messed up big time. I was cited for a 2 point offense for a speed contest. Well I just decided to buy a 2000 vette (Not the most economical decision, but if you can afford it then do it) and my rate went up a little bit from my RSX I was driving. right now I am paying $280 a month for basic coverage here in Cali. I completely knew what i was getting myself into, and it sounds like you didnt expect to pay that much for insurance, so if you can afford it without stressing, keep the vette, if not sell it, and buy one in 3 years or so when the points go off your record.

I understand alot of the guy's comments on here seem cruel to you, but you must know that most of them are twice are age and seem like they need to lecture us young dumb kids, but its all good. But on the other hand you should listen to them, age is wisdom in most cases, they have been through it all, unlike us. I tried every insurance company and the cheapest one I found was the company I have been with for about 6 years.

Horace Mann.

They have a website to, pm me if your interested.

Welcome to the forum.

Definately shop around. When I was 22 I bought a Ferrari 308. My insurance company at the time (Aetna) wanted $10k/year for insurance. (I will never do business with Aetna again)

I got it down to 2k in a couple of days, and 1200 after about a month.

Don't feel too bad about the comments. Insurance is a topic bound to spark strong opinions.

If its any consolation I just suffered a heavy year with my son being insured on the Camaro in Vegas.

I have a clean record and no accidents since 1973. 33 years without a "prang". The only claim I ever made (other than the wife's little ding) was for repairing a car which was stolen by an uninsured joyrider.

As a Brit coming to Vegas despite 3 years previously in Texas, the Insurance Companies reset the counters. The first quote I had was $3600 per year for 2 cars! Last year, my son's premium was running at the equivalent of $10000 per year Young driver and Vegas to boot. He's now back in "Blighty" and I have a current US history so were back to a sensible figure.

Best advice is you look at the best rates, decide if you can afford the costs and bite the bullet.

There's no justice and there's no insurance company who pays up willingly. I may be an old crusty now but I have plenty of insurance stories to while away the evenings

I am in Kansas City.

I'm probably closer to your age than the majority of the CF members (29...28 when I picked up my 2004 coupe)... but, I'm afraid you are going to have a very tough time getting an insurance quote that is much lower than that. Insurance rates skyrocket when you pick up tickets and accidents on your record.

Please, don't take offense... but, check with your insurance agent for a rate quote before you buy any car. It gives you a idea of what your total cost for the car will be. Just my 2 cents worth....

But, right now... I would just check with every insurance company you can find... you might get lucky. Good luck.
