I was wondering if the differentials will interchange. My 97 has the 3.15 and is a A4 and the one I'm looking at is a 01 3.42 that had a 6spd. Didn't know if it would fit. Thanks
Many people, myself included, have installed 3.42 (so called 6 speed) rear ends in their automatic transmission equipped C5's. Yes--they definately will fit and work great in your car. But, don't forget to get your shift points changed or you'll be in deep do do when you "nail her". Good luck...

What do you mean? I thought the shift points were measured by the tranny.
So if i didn't change my shift points it would shift at a lower RPM. Am I right?
In changing to a lower gear ratio (higher in number), at wide open throttle, the engine will over rev and be shut down by the rev limiter (I think around 61-6200 rpm) before the trans shifts to a higher gear UNLESS you have your PCM reprogrammed to compensate for the gear change.

also, when doing the carrier swap - don't forget to transfer over the seal plate from your existing one to the 3.42 carrier.
