Default Help!!!!!

I have a C5 Z06 (2004) and just made a few changes, i took out the stock airintake system and replaces it with the RM Racing C5 Twin Flow Intake system.I installed the coolant by-pass kit. I started the car up and it runs like ****...It idles real rough and has a realhard time running, and the throttle is real sluggish. Is there something i need to have done to the computer with this new intake system, the material didn't say anything about that.

Anyone have any sugestions?

thanks

Bill

Double check that your MAF wires are plugged in and that you have no leaks after the MAF.

Default Checked it

I checked the MAF and made sure it was plugged in, it seemed to run better so maybe it was not all the way in, not sure, maybe it is my imagnination also...I took it out on the road and ran it, it ran good, but is still ideling real rough. What would I need to do to make the ideling smooth out?

Oh by the way I am at Ft Monmouth, NJ

I have never seen a CAI install make a car run rough, even one leaking unmetered air. Lean - yes, rough? No ...

You could just need to do an idle relearn. Disconnect the battery for 5 minutes. Reconnect, then start the car, run with A/C on for 5 minutes. Turn off, restart - see if that fixes the problem.

My bet is one of a few things... Air leak, MAF not hooked up right, loose, or you somehow broke the MAF...

Try unplugging the MAF and see how it runs.. if it runs ok, then it's a MAF or AIR leak issue..

I redid the entire install and made sure there are no leaks. I can't get the plug out of the MAF, but I dont think I damaged it. But the results are still the same, it idels real rough it will flucuate between 550 and 700 rpm.

Pull the codes, see post # 31 in the FAQ sticky, it has instructions and what the codes mean.

I agree with the others, must be an air leak somewhere. Did you remove the TB to do the bypass... If so, that gasket needs to be replaced according to the manual.
The 04's use a screenless MAF. This can throw codes but I never heard of it causing a rough idle.

I checked for the codes and found the codes listed below, but they all had an HC at the end, so they must be history, not sure what the C means:
P0171 Fuel Trim System Lean Bank 1
P0174 Fuel Trim System Lean Bank 2
P0300 Engine Misfire Detected

I reset the module back to "NO CODES" then started the engine and let it run for a few minutes, I rechecked for codes, now all the modules indicate "NO CODES".

Well maybe i am just imagining all this now and assuming it is running rough. It did run bad at first becasue I am sure I had leaks, redoing the install, which I believe now I have fixed the leaks. I will take it out to see how it goes.

RB6,

Im sure he means leave the car stock. I do not totally agree with this statement. Generally though less problems occur. I have a CAI on my car with no issues. Like the other suggestions check for air leaks, and MAF. You can also try to put it back to stock to see if it goes back to normal. Good luck with it.

I agree that leaving it stock for the most part leads to less issues. But I do want to do some mods. I am not into making mods to the engine, maybe port out the throttle body more, but not sure.

Hey that was his quote not mine. I personally try to look for things that work well with each other. I started out with the CAI, and will be putting headers on the car by next year. I do not want to get into the motor just yet. Enjoy the car! It is a lot of fun!
