Default Push Button Start???

Hey everyone,

Has anyone here installed a push button start for their C5??? Where can you get this aftermarket or is it just a horrible idea that I should avoid entirely

I guess this would fall under the category of back up mods should those long awaited fold out key fobs not materialize.

Thanks for the help

I an all for advacement, but is using a key to start the car that much of an inconvenience? My wife's Acura has this technology, but I still don't see the overwhelming need for it.

But keys are so heavy and cumbersome, and the strenuous amount of torque neccesary to turn the engine over can take a lot out of me sometimes. One time when I didnt stretch properly I nearly pulled somthing

I'm just playing around vette2K1... your probably entirly right, but I guess my answer would be that I just like needless gadgets

Haven't installed it and haven't heard of any kits to make it happen either. Let us know if you find something out there.

I could have sworn I saw this done here on the forum a few months ago. I think there was a write up with pictures and everything.

A lot of things aren't necessity, but would be great to have anyway.

My father in law and I took his XLR(with push button start) to an event at Infineon raceway over the summer. When we got back to the car(4+ hours later) we found that he had left it running

The funny thing is he had gone back to the car once to get a jacket out of the trunk and didn't realize the car was running.

I think I recall some folks on one of the f-body forums using the start button from a Honda S2000. If you're interested I'd suggest googling that, it may come up with some info.

While we're at it, lets se if we can move the headlight dimmer switch down to the floor, and replace the electric wiper motor with vacuum operated wipers. Oh and I really like the idea of a 6 volt battery system too...... maybe we could contract somebody from Lucus to do the wiring on Corvettes, that way the electrical systems will finally meet the British standard of unreliability. Just kidding guys.....
But I don't really see what is so cool about button start. We finally got key starts back in the late 50s, that was supposed to be the height of engineering marvel at that time. No more pushing buttons to start that Chebby.

Geesuz. Now, that is the complaint I have heard from service technicians at the local dealerships. The customers accidental "left the push button stuck on on" fiasco has not only contributed to dead batteries, but, also, overheating when the vehicle is left alone for long periods of time. Theft is also yet another possible concern regarding this issue. Technologically, the advancement (push button start) has been available in recent times. However, culturally, many have not quite adjusted to this new option yet. Be careful.

If by 'tricky' you really mean 'retarded', yes.. the search is 'tricky'. It almost never works w/ even recent info.

I don't get it. So you still have to put the key in to start it and then turn it and then hit a button so it will start? lol

If you just want a pushbutton to engage the starter, this would be very simple to do. (You'd still have to insert the key and turn ignition on though). I could tell you how to wire this, no problem.

If you wanted to avoid the key completely, that would be more difficult, involve at least one more switch (ignition on/off/acc), and you'd also have to bypass the VATS (key pellet resistor) system...but still not impossible.
You car would be so incredibly easy to steal though, I would absolutely not recommend doing this, and even though I could figure out how to do it, wouldn't share that info.

Key can stay in your pocket. It just has to be within a certain distance for the pushbutton start to work.

Get a remote start kit (Car Toys).

Better IMO.

Check on the C6 Forum - many are dissatified with the 'button'.

I did the pushbutton to engage the starter years ago in my 68 Chevy truck... because I had the button and because the switch went bad in the start position only... but heck yeah, if somone had known that, my truck could have been taken as soon as you wired the hot side of the coil... so not a good idea these days... as Y2Kvert4me ponts out so well!!

Ahh but you have to put the key in to keep it running.. otherwise when you touch the brake to put it in gear, it dies... Yes? I guess it does start before you get in.. but again, what's the point when you must still put the key in and turn it to on???

Who knows... We all like our gimmicks!!
