Default Driving Fast!

I try to come to the FORUM daily, if not three, four, a dozen times a day, at work, home, airports (yeah I pay the few dollars it takes ) from all over the world and I often read posts about driving excessively and then you read the replies about how immature the drivers are that do it.

I am guilty of it! I have done it many times, often never exceeding 90, but have pasted it a few times. Sometimes if you don't drive 80-85 you are going to get ran over. That is the truth, if you don't believe drive I-295 around JAX, FL sometimes (not always) or I-75 through Gainesville, FL. No excuse. I will have you know this, I am responsible and I am sure that there are guys/gals that are too and then again I am certain that there are folks that do it for the thrill (we all do), but aren't smart enough to know when not to do it.

I am cruising in the vette with my 9 month old this last August and going with the flow of traffic speeds (75mph). I-95 through Savannah area was congested with cars and I noticed a COBRA racing with a mid-90s SATURN and passed me like I was standing still. Come on, we all know that a COBRA is going to smoke a SATURN 9 out of 10 times and this is what aggrevaited me, because these two fools were doing it (whipping in and out of traffic) to prove some idiot point. I wanted to take off and pass them both (COBRA was a mid to late 90s model) and show them who is king of the higways, but didn't because it was foolish.

I would like to also take this time to say that I appreciate this FORUM and will be around as long as some of you (many years) to help as you all have helped me! I also want to meet all of you! Yes, everyone and just to shake your hands and say, "Hey, it is great to finally meet you."

The last note I would like to say is, I am not ever going to promise I won't evrr speed, because that is a lie! However, I will promise you this, I sincerely will not do anything that would put a family in danger, after experencing it first hand with my boy in the car (he loved it), I feel alot more aware and alert on when to stomp on it and when to just take it easy!

Sorry this was so long, but I wanted to get this out!

I hear ya man. We all are guilty of it no matter how holy we want to portray ourselves as. We've all done it. This doesn't make it right. Good words to make sure we all take a look around and see who's life we might affect the next time. Be careful out there.

Micah, thanks for your service.

I have read your post, and checked your bio... You are about 33 years old... You have a child... You are married... With all due respect, you sound as though you have not grown up yet... Doing "not over 90" with your hair on fire shows that you have not reched the age of reason...
You have a LOT of responsability in your life. Maybe you should realize it. What would you say to your child if you were injured in an accident, or died...
How would you explain it to your wife if you injured your child while having fun...
Every time you get into that beautiful vette, say to yourself, while you buckle your seat belt, "If I'm not VERY CAREFUL, this car WILL kill me"
Then go enjoy it in safety!

are you kidding me?!? lighten up a little.

ill be the first to admit i drive "FAST." i own a powerful machine. im sure there are many vette owners who own their cars because they are "pretty"..... which is fine... i guess.

i on the other hand hit triple digits everyday. why?? because i can, and i enjoy doing so. go ahead say im immature, and havent grown up yet. doesnt bother me. i drive the car hard, the way its meant to be driven. 90mph!? you think thats really that fast?!

the thread starter is right. down here in FL i get passed by semi trucks when im doing 80 on the highways

speeding is wrong yea, but i dont know what the fuss is. i think the important part is to be able to make the right choice as to "where and when" you speed. i do blasts up to 150 here and there, car handles fine, and no matter what anyone says, i NEVER have a problem slowing down in time. you really dont need as much road as you think you do.

but thats my .02.... im going to continue being young and make poor choices!!

Casting the first stone I see......hmmm, I remember another story about that. Sir, are you to tell me that you have NEVER risked it a little, no matter what your age? I would find that very hard to believe. I'm with the thread-starter here; simply pointing out the fact that it is NOT smart, but sometimes you just gotta blow the dust out of the exhaust!!

I'd probably tell my child the same thing I would tell them if I walked across the street and got hit by a car; accidents happen, and in hindsight EVERYTHING is avoidable.

Good thread Squid, be safe out there!

I respect your opnion, but I love mine better!

Thanks everyone else who lives honestly!

C5 KIDD, well said!

ZOOOM,

Ask yourself, a cop that speeds to catch a criminal, "Is that safe driving?" NO! People are killed each and everyday and guess what it isn't from speedracer every time, no drunk drivers kill more people on the highways every year than a speeding immature guy or gal behind the wheel...AND THAT IS A FACT! Why am I lashing out at you? I am not, I am stating a point that everyone that gets into a car tasks a risk and your chances of being killed by any form of driver is likely! Insurance companies did a AMERICAN wide research and found that people that drive sports cars, CORVETTES, MUSTANGS, VIPERS, E55s, you name it, are better drivers THAN moms driving a MINI-VAN at 80 miles an hour trying to change the DVD out in the video player.

Thank you all for your time!

What would I tell my kid? The same thing as the Soldier that posted prior to me, accidents happen! Thanks for your service my brother!

Micah

I think everyone with a Vette gets on it a little from time to time. If you don't, I don't know why you have one. But, the thing you've got to watch out for is your kid. They are very impressionable at a young age and seeing dad speeding can lead to some less than desirable results when they start to drive. So I recommend you cool it with a kid in the car.

I never speed (high speeds) with my kid in the car and that was the point, I realize how important it is to do the right thing with him around and the truth be known, I am pretty cool period.

I agree with you in every aspect of your post!

The gal that I've been married to for 27 years is every bit as precious as our children are, we still manage a 125 or more blast when traffic and conditions allow. In a great car with no traffic, it's not really a great risk at all....

Living here in the state of Nevada we have quite a few areas were one can really open a vette up. Sadly most of the time the wife is with me and her life is very precious to me. So i drive responsibly. When i do get the chance to really drive fast i make sure that the person i am putting in danger is only myself. Everyday we come in contact with out of control drivers. Everyday i see the young running stop lights. And i am not talking about it just turning red. It's getting really scary out there. So all be careful and please drive responsibly!

ZOOOM that comment was ridiculous. Look at your profile. Your quote says "you are only as young as YOU think you are!" Don't contradict yourself.

I don't understand your reasoning? "speeding is wrong", but "you will continue to make poor choices". You do blasts up to 150 mph on a public highway? Ever calculate how many feet it takes to stop your car at 150 per? What about any sudden or unexpected obstacles in the roadway? Good luck, my friend!
