Is anyone else outraged by the price of these conversion kits? It looks like it is basically a spring and a piece of plastic with a screw. Are people really paying $50 for these or is there a DIY shortcut? Please tell me someone has the secret! thanks

I felt the same way before I bought mine, but I can't see an easy way around it short of changing the entire shift lever (which I wish someone would offer)

The better one is how West Coast Corvettes WILL NOT sell you just the adapter (Thanks Craig)... they will however, sell it to you for $50 IF you buy one of the $90 ***** as well... I tried a while back... I was told "Try the internet." No thanks... I kept my $130.00
I went to a buddy's shop and he handed me a $100 **** for FREE. I took a 1/2" x 1" metal dowel and made "my own" adapter.

Sure Bri-
I guess the big question would be what kind of **** you have. I got this one... it has the shift release **** in the middle. I just measured out how much I needed and inserted it into the ****. It filled the gap.
Although I have not been inside my new C5 shifter YET , I have been inside the f-body shifter and assume its pretty close to the same inside. What I have done is cut the plastic stick that actuates the detent , and replaced it with a longer metal rod(actually I like to use an old push rod ) so that it becomes the button, then drill a hole in the center of any **** you want to use.Mount new **** to shifter shaft and off you go.A side benefit to this is you can just pull the rod out and stick it in your back pocket ,no shift, no steal Works good been doing it since the 80's
