Default Dealer Nightmere ,

My drivers side window stuck 1/2 way.
Went to dealer for repair. Regulater $327.47
Was told modulator was also bad. $286.44
in shop 2 days.
They called Me and said the column lock malfunctiond and car would not go over 2MPH. ( They did the recall fix almost a year ago and I never had any problem at all ) I didn't have a problem before the recall.
Well that was another $191.27 for a lock actuator plus $114.04 for a harness that they installed at recall time.
My bill for a stupid window repair cost me $1,392.80 with laber and tax.
I have to go back in the morning because now My CD 12 pack changer does not work at all.
I just know they are going to say that the CD changer not working is a coincidence like they said the column lock was. Everything worked just fine except for the window when I went in.
Oh yea!!! The key fob did not work when I stoped at Sams club on the way home but I know how to reset it so it was not a big deal.
The door and window was filthy dirty.
I really hate going back tomorrow for the CD player run around I'm sure I will get but I don't have much choice.

I did call GM to inform them of my feeling of being way overcharged and why should I have to pay for a column lock repair that the dealer did less then a year ago at the recall.
If I don't get a decent explenation from GM I will call the dept of consumer affairs and file a complaint.

Sorry to hear this! Sounds like my dealership.

Dealerships are the biggest crooks!

Damn shame when you can't trust them to treat you honestly. You have to go in with an attitude and not take any crap to keep from getting fleeced and somehow they still find away to stick it to you.

Sounds to me it's time to start writing a letter or two. I wouldn't hestitate to send one to the owner of the dealership and cc it to GM as well.

That's one heck of a bill - sorry to hear about the problems. Hope you can get some relief, at least for the column lock problem. Maybe its just a loose wire on the CD changer.

There is no reason why you have to take it to a dealership to be repaired. Find a reputable independent shop, and have them take care of your Vette. Even with an extended warranty, you can take your car to an independent shop for work. Don't go through the aggravation of having to leave your Vette at a dealer.

Not sure if this will help... my car was at 2 different dealerships over the CL problem within the matter of 3 weeks. Both times when I got it home the CD changer did not work. Both times I removed the cd holder and returned it to the unit and the CD changer was back working again.

TRUE.....there are plenty of excellent independent mechanics out there. They don't have to advertise because normally they have plenty of loyal customers!!! Ask around. When you find one don't let go!
Good Luck.

I use an independent mechanic that was recommended through my club.

Join a club, there is always someone in the club that can walk you through the repair, or even fix it for you. Our clubs main sponsor is a chevy dealership and they give members a good discount on parts and labor.

Sorry to hear about all this -- sounds like a crappy situation.

But hearing your troubles got me thinking (and keep in mind this is wild-azz speculation) that maybe your car has a bad ground somewhere. That might be what killed the power window, set the column lock, blitzed the CD changer and make the remote fail temporarily (until you reprogrammed it). Anyone else think this may be possible?!?

yes,
joining my local Corvette Club has paid off in a huge way when it comes to repairs and mods to my Vettes.
Highly suggest it - and sorry to hear about the dealership making your bottom hurt like that

I've been sitting on this extended warranty offer from GM for a month now wondering if its worth it. After hearing all your problems I think I made up my mind.

However, even with a warranty you still have to deal with a crappy dealer.

Hope you get some satisfaction from GM.

That sounds just like a dealer I know. My car stayed torn up so much I told them I was going to get a big wrench and start fixing it myself. I was going to start at the front and go to the back adjusting, fixing stuff. Believe me I am no mechanic!!! It was still in warranty. They fixed the car and I have had no more problems. Wow its bad when you get held up for a few parts you need!

Since you did not authorize the column lock to be fixed, I'd demand that they take their crap out and subtract that from your bill. Call Corvettes of Houston, give them 50 bucks and get a CLB. Hell, install it right there on their lot.

Buying an extended warranty doesn't necessarily mean you have to bring your Vette to a dealership. Many independent shops honor extended warranties, including GMPP. With my GMPP extended warranty, I had $2800.00 worth of work done on my '99 coupe by an independent who specializes in Vettes. I wouldn't bring my Vette to a dealership for even an oil change!
