Default AC Not Working

A few weeks ago we had a brief spell of warm weather and I turned on the AC. The air was not cold. My 99 FRC is out of warranty so this one will come out of the pocket. I think I'll wait until spring to have it fixed when I get the annual oil change. Anyone else had this fixed? How expensive was the repair? Thanks.

that's a difficult question to answer without more info. Being a 5-6 year old car, it is possible for the freon to be low, which means you will need a R-134A recharge($100-150 depending on area). However, I suspect you may have an external leak, which you will have to let an HVAC technician find, then replace the part that's leaking, vacuum and recharge. We get alot of 95 up- vehicles with good charge, and my 93 Chevy S-10 work truck still blows cold(original charge)! Good luck

You could buy a 12 oz can of r-134a at your local autoparts store or Walmart and see if that does it. The charge may be only slightly down.
The issue if it is substantially low is that moisture can leak into the system and cause big $$$ problems.

If the DIY appraoch above doe snot work, then its off to the A/C technician
Good Luck

Your HVAC system is monitored and will throw DTC codes if anything is wrong. Please check the codes and post them prior to doing anything to the system.

Here is a list of the codes and a good website to explain everything.

This is the absolute best C5 Code web site!!!
