I added the functional rear brake ducts not too long ago, along with the front foglight screens and love the look. I also added the red fuel rail covers simply because they looked good with the red haltech stinger intake. All these things were done for looks and I don't think my Vert would ever be confused for a Z06.
There's much more to a Z06 than brake ducts and badges, I'd also take a look at your suspension, and what kind of power you are making!
Yes, precisely. I'd pay much closer attention to getting the car to perform like the Z06 does rather than making it simply appear like one. That said, altering the appearance should be fine, provided the alterations are functional and not some ploy (ie: emblems, fake air duct).
I'm thinking about getting a removable hartop for my vert to use for sunny winter days and for long road trips. It will give you
the ability to have the Z06 look and the functionality of a vert.

Hey, is this a Z06 convertible?
Just kidding. I've got an Arctic White vert and I love the look of the rear brake ducts against the white. Next mod comming!!

If I didn't have a Z I think this is the route I would go, you can have the look of the FRC and the open air of a vert. Plus you could Mod it in many ways to make it suite you as you wish.
However, as someone who loves mods, I have to add that you will spend far more on mods than you will get back on resale. It could be less expensive to buy a Z in the long run, depending on what mods you do. Of course then you lose the open air feeling of the Vert or coupe.
Its all trade offs , Make a plan and figure out what it will cost to acheive this look. Then decide what you want to do. Lastly you must also consider how long you "PLan" on keeping the car. If you mod it a keep it to enjoy for some period of time it may be worth the cost, however if you mod it and sell next year you will lose money.
Bottom line, how much you want to spend and what you want to end up with should guide you.
Despite not being sure about the SHAPE of the Z06 brake ducts when the Z06 first came out, I've since come to really like the looks of them on the car. That area of black compliments the window trim and tires.
The screens in the front bumper look great as well. Z06 or not, those screens just look good on any Vette.
OEM Z06 wheels would be a good upgrade to any Vette for their weight savings. That being said, I certainly don't think they're great looking wheels -- I mean, if I were looking to upgrade my stock wheels, I wouldn't look to a Z06 actual or look-alike wheel.
You said right up front that you'd never put Z06 badges on your car. That's good. I just don't agree with that (on ANY car). Would the otherwise-bare fender look nice with some [non-Z06] badging there? Probably.
I wanted a mod red interior for my Torch Red coupe (I just think that combo is awesome) and after pricing all the parts it was crazy...spending 2 grand just for seat skins??? so I found a complete 03 Z06 mod red interior someone was selling for the price of one seat skin and I bought it...Got two mint seats, glove box, driver knee panel and two door panels in mod red...it looks awesome- only thing I wish is that the red Z06 logo was not on the seat headrest...but for the price...I love it! I know it's not a Z- but I had to have that interior!
Everything but the emblem is AOK. But you will not be able to do the best part of the Z06, the motor and trans, atleast not cheaply. There are alot of great deals out there, why don't you sell your car and use the extra money you would have used for mods and get a Z06, you will not be sorry.
Mine is kinda Z06ified, not by design, just ended up going in that direction. I like the front screens. I like the wider non-runflat tires. I like the fake C6-Z06 style wheels. The Z51 is already good enough for me. Most importantly is the HP to back it up. No badges except "CORVETTE".
I must be in the minority that don't like the C5 Z06 visual gimmicks. The FRC is one of my favorite Corvette bodystyles, but those tacky Z06 brake ducts just look cheap to me. Sorry, my brothers, it's just my opinion.
You've got this beautiful car with it's graceful lines flowing underneath some literally, tacked on, piece of plastic, that honestly, doesn't serve a highly useful function. Rear brakes don't need the extra cooling. Look at the C5-R, look at any tracked car, it's the front brakes that glow, not the rears.
The C5 Z06 really is a wonderful car, but honestly, if you're not on a track, it's hard to wring it out to beyond what your convertible will do already on the street. And your convertible will do a trick that 98% of the Z06's will never be able to do, lose the top.
