I was in your position about a month ago, I read every thread on I could on exhaust systems for the C5. I wanted something that made the C5 sound as much like a muscle car as possible. The general consensus was that B&B Bullets were the system to go with.
Some people say they're insanly loud, this is not the case. Yes they're loud but it's a good loud and in my opinion they could be louder. I love my Bullets - everyone tells me how nice the car sounds. The system is extremely well built too, gotta love it.
I've got Borla two-tips, and they're not loud at all in the cabin while cruising. Or maybe I've just gotten used to them. Plus, I've done the sound insulation bit. But I've taken several long trips with no problem at all. Not sure how they sound outside on the highway though. At idle, they're just a deep rumble ... sound good and not offensive.
Well, I sure love my B&B Dual Tips. Frankly, I have had the opportunity to try many aftermarket exhaust systems, AND, this system in particular, really turns heads. Man, I get appreciative smiles, thumbs up, and, a small crowd of admirers ever time I pull into a gas station, or, grocery store. Despite this, exhaust note preference, and, tolerance, is most subjective. See if you can hook up with several local Corvette clubs in your area. And, you are bound to come across several members who have different exhaust systems that you could listen to at real time. This is far better than merely listening to any sound file, although doing so is quite helpful. Hence, you really do need to hear the different exhaust systems out in the street at idle, inside the vehicle at highway speeds, and, at WOT, to determine which system works best for you. Best of luck to you.
I had B&B PRT's, but I just swapped them out for B&B Bullets! Much deeper sound and lower pitch. Not as loud at cruising as I thought they would be, but that's cool. Heading towards WOT or even letting off the gas and slowly decelerating sounds cool. The popping on deceleration is deeper and accented by some individual loud but deep sounding pops! I got the quad tipped Bullets, and they look great, too, especially the tips. Also, the Bullets stick out about an inch or two from under the exhaust opening. It gives it an aggressive look!
I liked the quad tip Borla Stingers. I had almost thought about the SLP Loudmouths, too, but could never find a sound bit to listen to them before deciding upon the Bullets.
Here we go again, LOOK, no matter what is more important to you, through a combination of systems or just an upgraded stock system you can have exactly what you want it isnt going to be ANY better than ANYone else's as long as they have what they want! To get what I wanted I did some mixing and match! long tubes hy-flow cats X-pipe and big bullet twins Its not for everyone but I think thats the point!

It's been said here over and over again - get what makes you happy. If you ask six Vette owners what's best - chances are outstanding that they will recommend what they have. But the bottom line is to really hear the different systems - not just have someone start up their car while parked, and blip the throttle a few times. What difference does it make how it sounds at idle? How much time do you spend sitting in the car when it's parked and idling?
What you need to hear is how it sounds in top gear cruising at freeway speeds and how it sounds running up and down through the gears around town.
And then, if you have a "significant other" - what does he/she think about the sounds from the passenger seat? I know the thought process will be "Who cares - it's MY car and I like it!" But in reality - it does matter. If you go on a Sunday cruise with your S/O and the sound annoys the crap out of him/her - your time in the car will not be spent listening to the throaty muscular sound of your new exhaust system - it will be sitting listening to whining and b!tching how he/she is getting a headache, and how he/she won't ride with you again until you make this damn thing quieter.
Resonance is that annoying drone that you'll get at certain RPM ranges - it's not loud as much as it is an annoying buzzing. Sound at idle won't produce it - that's why you have to ride in the car at different speeds and in different gears.
I just put the borlas on last night and love them took a little 120 mph run to blow the dust off the car, still trying to get the smile off my face.. X pipe on the way will see what that does.. took them up to speed and they were really quit.... but WOT thet will know you are comming...
I tried on more than several occasions to hook up with people to hear exhausts and just never made it. That's still the best advice, hear them in person. I bought my GHL'S without hearing them first and I am very happy with my decision.
