Don't waste your time with Ebay or any other online store. Assuming your insurance is covering it, then just get a new hear hatch (or just glass) from the dealership and let them do everything.
I don't believe it was involved in this event, primarily because of the way the glass fractured. Rather than eminating from one place (such as at the flag), and progressing across the glass like a spreading crack, the fracture event was instantaneous, with the entire glass fracturing into literally thousands of pieces -- none bigger than 1/2" across. It happened so fast that I didn't physically react to the BANG! until *after* most of the glass was already in the trunk. The tremendously thorough fracturing makes me think the glass was under high tension over its entire surface, and not overstressed at the location of the sticker.

This is what happened in my earlier post - there was no cracking, just bam and it blew out.

Tonight I was driving to dinner in my C5 I turned on my rear window defroster and started on my way, I had driven for about 10 minutes when I smelled a electrical burn type of smell I turned off the rear defroster when in aprox. 10 to 20 seconds later I hear a loud bang!! (Pop) I looked at the rear window and it was completely shattered! Wow scared the crap out of me. Not sure what happened but I'm suspecting something to do with the rear defroster, maybe it heated the window up to a high temp and when I turned it off the ambient temp was cold enough to pop it. Could have been a malfunction do to the fact that only half of the window was defrosting. I'm just guessing!
Either way scared the crap out of me! Time to find someone to replace my window...

Wow...excessive heat must be the issue...???
I don't know if this a trend or not...
...but so far, we can conclude that this happens to someone about every 10 years!
