I decided to add a navigation system to my C5, but I didn't want to put the HVAC controls down in the ashtray area. I decided to move it down just far enough to allow the radio opening to accept the AVIC-D1 trim bezel. I've never seen this done, so I just thought I'd share it with my Forum family, for those who are considering this mod.
Before and after...
This wasn't the easiest mod, but I took my time and I think it turned out pretty good. Now, I can't wait to install it.
awsome mod! how did you add the bottom portion of the console? What materials did you use when you added the bottome part?
The bottom part, where the ashtray was, was made using the left over ashtray door, cut down to fit. The fillins were done using ABS from an old pillar gauge pod I had left over and ABS cement purchased from Lowes

The texturing was done using SEM products. They have a whole line of products for reconditioning interiors and trim. I didn't want to fool around retexturing the whole console, so I masked off the portion I was modifying and tried to match the original texture in just that area.
Thanks for the kind words, Guys. I did take pictures throughout the whole process and I do plan to write a "how to" once the project is finished.
