for 50k would you guys get a c6 or a used c5 z06 for 30k and mod it sc it or whatever, I really like the look of c5....but c6 is newer.....I will track it and drag race a little....which car would you get and why...I am kind of deciding between the two....
c6 z06 is nice but 80k that's out of my range....maybe later if they drop the price lower or I get a used one for like 60k or something
First you need to decide which body style you like best. A C6 Z51 will render very similar performnace to a C5 Z06 (arguably, with a slight edge to the C5 Z06). I waited to buy my '04 Z06 until I could see a C6 in person and chose the C5 Z06 (a personal preferance). If you take a portion of the money you would save by buying a C5 over the C6 and invest in some well thought out modifications, you will end up with a much better car both from an appearance and performance standpoint (IMHO).

It is definitely a matter of personal preference and taste. The C6,even with the Z51 package is a softer more compliant ride than the more performance oriented C5 Z06. It is the difference in the way that they cars are engineered that makes the most difference between them.
The C5 Z06 is a more edgy car with brutish power at it's limits, yet has a civil, compliant side that comes out in daily driving. It is not a quiet car due to the fact that it is lightened significantly from the standard C5 design. The C6 is more of a cruiser and has a softer edge to it than the C5 Z06 although it also offers very impressive performance. To my way of thinking the C6 is designed to try and widen the Corvette market by appealing to a wider clientele and thus some of the raw performance edge that the C5 Z has is smoothed out.
I like the styling and the edgyness of the C5 Z06 by far over the C6. I am adjusting to the styling of the C6, but to me it does not have the symetry of the C5 design. It is a hard act to follow. The flares and other mods that the C6 Z06 has helps the design alot, but it still is not as nice as the C5 design.
I highly reccomend the C5 Z06 because of what it offers in stock form and for how far you can take the car with modifications. It is not hard at all to have a car with as much or more performance ability as the new Z06, but be prettier to look at.
i hate to say this because i love my c5z to death, but i would take the c6 z51.... if you can get it for a reasonable price that is. the z06 might be a bit faster, but the acceleration difference is minimal at best and you would forget about it quickly. the c6 is more comfortable and has far better lighting, AND..... (shocker) i think it looks better too.
as far as overall performance goes, the c5z probably brakes better and handles better too, but for my purposes, the c6 would be a better. i guess its just a matter of what you want in the car. i daily drive my c5z but i'd trade it in without thinking twice for a c6 z51.

A guy at my gym just bought an '06 Z51 6 Speed. It's a beautiful car! But he's jealous as all hell over my car. He's still kicking himself for passing on a Lingenfelter TT '02 Z06 he almost bought this past summer. He really likes the C6, but he told me if he could do it again he would've bought an '04 Z16 Z06 and supercharged it. I really don't think you can make a wrong decision between the two. But for $50K, you could have one helluva nasty '02 or '03 Z06.

thanks a lot for everyone's input...
can you just buy a lingenfelter z06? or you buy a stock z06 then Lingenfelter it? how much to do so? also wht kind of warranty they give out? I hate it when the car breaks down a lot

If I were you, I would buy the C5 ZO6 and put the Procharger Stage II kit on it. You would also want to think about some stickier tires, new clutch and a beefed up drivetrain, because you will definitely roast the F1's off the car.
After having my Z for a while and adding a cam package I wouldn't be happy with a C6 and the stock horsepower. It sounds like you are considering modding a Z vs. a C6 stock. If you want even more bang for the buck buy a modded C5 Z06. There are cars I've seen sell for an incredible discount for the mods they have put in. This is always what happens when modding and there are people selling there high end modded cars to get into the new Z for a small fraction of what it would cost you to buy a 30k Z and mod it.

What are you looking for? The C6 is more refined and is loaded with gadgets that make everyday driving more comfortable. Its almost as fast and handles almost as well... but you will feel a bit disconnected from the road.
The C5 Z is more raw and has more road feel. You will feel more connected to the car and the road. It is more performance oriented, yet it is comfortable for everyday use..
Consider body style... what do you like better.... The C6 seems smaller and more condensed than the C5....
I am on my second 04 Z06... before I bought my current Z, I test drove the C6 Z51... It was nice.. but I wanted the bad boy feel... I like the mechanical feel, the feedback from the road. I also like to keep it simple... the C6 has too many electronic gadgets that add weight, complexity and cost...
I suggest you test drive both and decide what you really want...

go with the c5, pocket the difference, then take a nice vacation someplace special, come back and go drive the vette through some twisties. no brainer, best of all worlds!
