Hello all..i have to say i test drove the C6 Z51 and then test drove the 04' Z16 with only 600mi on it....
...in result i own the Z16 now!

just more bang for the buck!

what things did you like over the c6? could you tell in detail

I have followed your thread since day one.

I own a C6 Z51 MN6 and am very happy with it.

You made a great choice with the '04 Z16 and congrats on the new Z.

let's see:

1. front ends: i hate the way the c6 looks and it's only slightly more palatable in z06 form. the c5 has more curves.

2. tires. the c5z06 comes with non run-flats and this is a huge bonus in braking, handling, accelerating and transmitting road feel.

3. shifter. i find the c6 shifters notchy. the c5 shifter throw is more truck-like, but it's more positive engagement.

4. acceleration. the c6 LS2 has more power under the curve for sure but you can actually feel the torque management system if you do enough standing starts. the c5 ls6 is nastier and more finicky but i prefer its characteristics to the LS2. maybe it's the sound plus less linear power delivery, but i much prefer the LS6.

5. modern "conveniences". i hate the push button start. i hate the electronic door releases. the HUD is marginally nicer, but does not seem technologically superior.

6. driving them back to back on a closed track: there is no dispute. the c5z06 is faster measurably on almost any track. it communicates a hell of a lot more while it's doing it, also.

that said, i'm sure i'll get used to the quirks of the c6 and if it gets properly tuned up and loses some of the insulating elements, it will perform better than the c5. it will take a lot to get there, though. i agree with people here. coming straight out of a c5z06 at spring mountain and jumping into a z51 is a nightmare. the z51 feels like my CTS-V has better roll resistance.

I have a similar dilema. I have to get rid of either my C6 or my C5 Z06. I don't know which I like better. The Z has been modified to 450+ rwhp but the C6 is sweet. I might try to talk my wife into keeping both
