I take her out once or twice a week just for fun. I have a company truck for my DD to and from work. I treat this car better than my wife.. Just kidding dear
Mine is a DD. 98 w/ 87K on clock. Drove it when temps got to 5 degree F and had a little snow on street. With a manual trans it actualy handled pretty good. Would not advise driving if the snow is say over 4 inches, it looks like it would be a plow.
My '04 Coupe, with 29.8K, is my DD. I also have it setup for Autocross/Track. So it rides a tad rougher on the bumpies than stock but it doesn't bother me. I do change tires when I go to the track. About the only thing I will be doing different than most is flushing and refilling my transmission & differential at least once a year and changing as needed (never going more than 3 months now) power steering, brake fluid, and oil . I use Redline for all my fluids. It is probably over kill, but after boiling my power steering fluid and almost losing all of the fluid (save what was in the steering rack) while going into turns at 70, I decided caution was now in order.
Way to go guys!! I have no idea why some of these Vette owners leave it parked in the garage and strive to put as few miles as possible on it. Drive it!! Enjoy it!! The motors in these C5's are great.
Every dry day here...I thought I would drive it less but it's impossible to keep it in the garage. Even after the H/C I do DC traffic just so I can hit it once of twice... Plus it gets a lot better milage than the Tahoe. 13k last year but that includes a couple of 1k trips.
DD? Well it didn't start out that way but with the price of gas over the summer it did end up that way. Daily commute is around 60 miles a day and with the Ford pickup it was costing close to $400.00 a month in fuel.
Started driving the Vette just to ease the pain somewhat and was really racking up the mileage. Now don’t get me wrong I never intended this thing to be a garage queen but this car is special and I didn’t buy it for this purpose. I worried myself to death about were to park it and I also work at night and that in its self poses its own problems.
The biggest concern however(at least for me)was driving the car everyday caused that special feeling to wear off somewhat, I would live for the weekends to come just to jump in the Vette and head down the road not going anywhere just cruising with a big grin.
After driving the car all week it just was not as much fun as it used to be and I really hated that so I knew I needed to find another way.
Another way came in the form of a Diesel VW Jetta, found one for $4000.00 which was a great deal because the diesels are going for a premium now because of the fuel prices.
My fuel bill has drop to less then $100.00 a month! and the much beloved fun factor is beginning to return.
