As some one thinking about buying a C5 (98 coupe), I was wondering how many of you use your C5 as a daily driver. If not, what do you drive? Thanks for your help. Any other comments will be appreciated, too. I've found the forum to be interesting, entertaining, informative.
DD here in North Carolina. Absolutely love it, but have to borrow a SUV for my ski trips! If you dont live up north, I say go for it. You wont find a car anymore powerful and conventional at the same time.
Just tucked mine away for the winter. Lucky enough that the wife has a 2005 Pathfinder and i also have a Jeep. Bought my 2001 in Fla. where no snow, ice or road salt has touched her. Plan to keep it that way.
If I lived all time in Fla., then the Vette would be driven EVERYDAY!
I think it depends on where you live and what kind of work you do. The Corvette is a pig in snow unless you change over to winter tires and even then it's low and can't handle anything too deep. You’re pushing your luck with a Vette in the snow and ice.
Also, your job may not be a good fit for a Vette on a daily basis. If you carry customers or work in a dirty environment you may want to consider a daily driver.
I carry customers and can’t use my Vette so I have to have a daily. I also have to have a presentable safe car for customers to ride in so that also dictates the kind of dd I need.
If I lived where it didn’t snow and worked in an office with covered parking, I probably would dd my Vette.
As for me, I'm not sure I'd use the Vette as a DD even if I lived where it's warm all the time???
Around here, folks have "fun cars or hot rods" in their garage that they bring out on the weekend alot more than some areas of the country I'd guess...?? Simply because of the weather factors... We don't drive them unless the sun is shining. You can drive past lots of houses that have a stall or two being used by such a vehicle...
I guess maybe that's a pretty big assumption saying it's more prevalent around here?? I do think there is a different mindset about what and when to drive, because of the weather around here though.
I'm in the same boat as CoastalRAP as well, in that I haul customers a couple times a week but I also put on more than 45K miles per year. Trust me, I'd love to do that in the Vette but ummmmmm no...
My dd? 2006 Impala... (Last one was an '04) Just got it a few weeks ago... nice car, roomy comfortable for the day long driving I do. Much like the Vette!!
I bought my 2000 coupe almost 2 years ago with 51k and now have 82K. Drive rain, snow, ice or shine over the mountain to work and any where I can. I will take her to OK City in January too!! Love to drive it. Even at 2.40 a gallon it costs less to drive than my wifes Pathfinder.
Buy it and drive it, you'll like it. Just like Mikey.
Mine is not a DD but I've considered trading in my Trailblazer so I could get a 98-00 or so to daily drive. I'd like to leave my current Spiral Gray as a show/cruising/track car.
When I first bought my 00 I was driving it daily. It was thrilling & just plain fun. After awhile I started getting more & more pissed off with local traffic problems & decided to garage it. I now drive the 96 mazda through the car killing daily crap of commute world. I feel better for it in the sense that the vette is at least not in a state of abuse from the hwy, stop & go, stone throwing , construction ridden crappy road system in Orlando that I face every day. I also feel bad that I ended up doing this and sometimes wonder what the hell I bought such a great car to begin with. I take it out less & less now? I start it up to keep the battery alive and clear out the condensation twice a month with an occassional blast through the sunday am streets and maybe a race track event & thats it. Its sounds sad but thats the way it is for me at this time. I,ve actually entertained the thought of selling her but I don't think I can. It is a special vette & I would miss it so.
dd decision, i'm sure will be in large part based upon location. if in places where there is abundant sun & moderate temps, this may well be a can-do. if in places where some of us are priviliged to deal with snow, ice, sleet, freezing rain, & more, then a winter season dd is a no-can-do or perhaps a fool-would-do. best of luck. bub
I drive mine probably 75% of the time, I dont like to take it out in the rain and crappy weather since I spend so much time detailing it......thats what the camry is for....the car is made to be driven, my 99 has 93k....
