My right rear tire keeps losing pressure at a slow rate, about 4 lbs a day. I looked at the tread didnt see any nails so I just filled it up and chalked it up to the cold weather. the next day it went totaly flat. So I took it off put soapy water all over the tire and rim to find out the valve stem was leaking so I bought a new core and tightened it and it is still leaking. Do I have to by an entire new stem or what, does this happen often?
Are the tires new (ie has anyone been messing with the stem)? If you replaced the valve and it still leaks, the threads are probably stripped letting air out. No idea why it would give a problem unless someone was messing with it.
If you really dont want to mess with it you could caulk it and let it go until tire replacement, but that sucks.
Arnold....you probably need to suck it up and have the valve stem replaced....call around to get an idea on what it will cost as some places rape you on runflat removal and mounting.
This guy...www.pitcrewtire.com will come to you and he charges $25 flat rate..he came to my house and did 4 335/30/18's for me and Cecil...$100 even and he has all the best stuff onboard. If you call him tell him I sent ya.
Oh yeah...one more thing I have seen tire places completely F up the bead of run flat tires making them useless so be damn sure before you go anywhere that they can do it.
I just had new Michelin PS2s fitted. I had to take the car back because I had the same problem. It was losing about 10psi a week.
Turned out the wheel balancing weight had pinched the tire and was allowing just a little air to leak. They reseated the tire, fitted a new weight and problem solved.

It sounds to me that your o-ring on the valve stem (TPS) is leaking. You might try just tightening the nut at the base of the stem slightly first. If that doesn't do the trick you might need to open up the tire and have a new o-ring put on the TPS. The stem cannot be replaced if you are using the OEM tire pressure sensors. Have you had any work done on the wheels? New tires? New sensors?
