Default Sometimes stock is nice.

This weekend my finace and I went to my parents house in Greensboro, NC. Saturday was somewhat warm, so I ganked my mom's '99 mag red/tan mn6 vert (Z06 catback as it's only mod) threw down the top and went for a drive.

I must admit I enjoyed it very very much. The car was lound enough when you wanted it to be, very smooth but still great fun in the turns, and an easy shifting stock shifter and clutch. The turn-in response actually felt better than my Z b/c I have some play in my front wheel bearings (track duty). I used to have a convertible mustang cobra and while I love the Z for thre track putting the top down is so much fun.

My car is a blast and I love it but I've modded it for road course work and made the exhaust loud (kooks headers w/ cats and stingers) and put in a LUK stange II clutch which is a bit stiffer than stock, but not like my mustang cobra was, and Installed a Hurst shifter.

It was odd having that much fun in a stock vert... I will purchase the car when mom/dad get tired of it or dad gets off his *** and buys himself a HPDE C5.

Anyone else feel the same... anyone just go overboard with mods to the point the car is a chore to drive?

I agree. I drove a 6spd C5 vert this summer that was bone stock and I loved it. I even thought about trading in on one. It was quite and was smooth on the road. Another thing that I noticed is that there was virtually zero wind noise. You can get beaten to death in a coupe with the panel out. I was very surprised.

I hear ya!

Though I have done a few things to my 97 coupe...none have taken away from its fun factor as a cruise machine...I too have Kooks on her, but with a Z06 catback you can still talk to someone at highway speed...only other things are LS6 intake and Haltech Air intake system...but these only give her a few ponies...This weekend here in Florida was beautiful...so the Wife and I went for a nice long drive up the coast...it was fantastic! I love the Z06...but the fear of not having some kind of open top keeps me from having one...at least for a daily driver...which my 97 is...

That's why I said sometimes... no stock is not always nice, but for a nice top-down cruise with my finace it was. This is why I need 2 vetes... a posh vert and a track ready Z.

I know what you mean. I just purchased a creampuff, 2000 FRC, 100% stock. Its so nice, I will do some mods to it, probably just exhaust and intake, and a shifter. For what I use the car for, its fine just the way it is. I'm not into drag racing, I just drive it, and I'm gonna try autocrossing it, but thats it, I don't need crazy HP for what I'm doing, and as for looks, it looks fine stock! I wouldn't mind changing the runflats, though, but they're brand new!

we have a 03 vert 6M, totally stock and absolutely LOVE it. We have previously owned cars like a 427 shelby cobra, and a 289 Sunbeam Tiger, but the vette beats them both out in its own way. The 427 was a beast for the straight line, and absolutely underwear washing scary if you got into it, but get into a corner too fast and you were F***ED! The 289 was amazing car, quick, and fairly agile, at least considering that huge motor up front! But both were extremely loud, and driving down the highway would make my head pound eventually. So for us the vette is the ultimate inbetween car, quiter, quick, and can really handle, but get into it and the sound is very pleasing!! For our purposes stock is perfect.

I agree. I have a sweet 2000 triple black, that I am itching to mod for track use, but since I gave it to Evie for her birthday, I need to buy my friends 2004 Z16 for track time.

I have been working on a bolt-in roll bar for the track with a wind buffeter so I can run topless at Barbers, and some good used Z06 rims, but hate to thrash the creampuff.

Not a thing wrong with a stock C5 - they can be a pleasure to drive. I just can't seem to keep mine stock though.

But you have to remember that we don't mod because we want to. It 's because it is a serious illness..... an addiction.

I think i could be happy driving a full bolt-on vert. I'd have to have at LEAST exhaust and shifter upgraded.
