the travel guides are pretty sweet and come in handy, all 50 states and more. discounts on hotels/car rentals (saved 20 bucks on a day on the gator' i rented in FL over the holidays), and one flatbed will cost more than 47$. AAA worth it in my book, but my daily driver is a 2000 Jetta, so its a crapshoot if it will run every time i start it.
Yup, definetely. I've used them to tow my cars many times......and I request a flat bed every time. Sometimes they take a little longer than they should, but still worth it.
I've had them get there in 20-minutes when my wife was broken down on a highway, and even better, they even came to a drag strip when the throttle cable snapped on my Lincoln Mark VIII!!! When I told them where to pick me up, they didn't even say anything?!
If I didn't have Roadside Assistance from USAA, I would use AAA. I used them in the past only because while living in Germany I had ADAC (beyond compare to ANY) and AAA had an affiliate program with ADAC...so while at home on leave I got their international drivers license and used the mapping service for some road trips in the states. The only bad things I've ever heard about AAA is the roadside assistance can be "iffy" due to the fact that they use independent contractors, and well, you just never know what you'll get...USAA does that as well, but they are very intolerant of bad service to their customers, so the independents know they better give good, timely service or they will be booted.
I don't have AAA, but have a similar roadside assistance through my Sprint PCS phone for the same price. For me, its just piece of mind. I spend a lot of time each year on the road traveling and/or going to races and I feel comfortable knowing I have some backup.
I've been paying $48 per year for who knows how long. Only used it once, and that not even for my car. I was traveling with my brother who locked himself out of his car. In that case, and it was in a fairly remote resort area, we were promptly attended to and on our way.
I have locked my keys in the car without having the passive function on while I was away from town and they got to me within a half hour and got my keys for me. I have also used them for dead battery issues and other problems while on the road. They are real good to work with and definitely worth having. Saved me many times over.
All road service co's use independent contractors who must meet their standards to renew contracts. The nice thing is that if something goes wrong, you have an advocate on your side.
Years ago AAA sent out an idiot who damaged my wife's car changing the tire. I couldn't get anyone from the contractor's office to return my calls. AAA interceded and paid damages directly.
I have had AAA since I received a licence back in 1989. Father's advise to me. I have used it plenty of times when I had **** boxes for cars. So I would always have it.
Worth it depending on where you are at.
Here in Ohio our coverage on towing used to be 120 miles and now they cut it back to 20. Not bad if you break down 20 miles from the house I guess.
Would not be without it.
I've had AAA for 25 years, the one and only time I used them, they left me sit!!
I was about 50 yards into another county and they told me I had to call AAA in that county. I explained to the girl that my cell phone battery was too low, I needed HELP now, couldn't she call and let the other county know where I was? She said, no she couldn't do that, put me on hold and my cell phone died. After I walked about a mile to a fast food place, I called my husband, he came and got me, and then took me home. I called AAA when I got home, spoke to the manager and explained the situation to him. Ya know what he said? He was sorry that happened, but in order for them to pick up the car, I had to be WITH the car!! I walked a mile in the cold and drug my husband out of work and then he expected me to go back to car!! After a blasted him with a temper I never knew I had, they went and got the car.
We still have AAA, but I don't have that warm fuzzy feeling about them.

I saved at least 25% on the best price I could find for a trip to Disney with the family through a AAA / American Airlines package. We had a nice room at the Wilderness Lodge for a week for the price of a mid level Disney hotel for 5 days through anyone else. That paid for more than a few years of membership.
I have my Road Hazard insurance thru GEICO. It varies in price due to age of vehicle. My 2004 Buick Lesabre costs only $4.50 for six months coverage. My '02 Vette is $6.30 for six months coverage and my 92 Ford Ranger (beater) is only $8.20 for six months coverage. Total of these is $19.00 for six months or $38.00 for a whole year.
I have used this coverage on three occassions and was pleased each time. Geico also uses independent contractors.
I would suggest you check with your car insurance company before signing up for AAA.
