Default Battery question

2004 vette and my battery's green eye is not green! I use a float charger from time to time and it seems to charge it just fine. I have read where the green eye is a built in electrolite tester. I tested the battery under load of hood light and it reads 12.50 with the light on and when the light goes out it creaps up to about 12.75 volts.

My question is: Just how important is this green eye anyway? Do I need a new battery if it wont turn green and how long is the battery warranty on a new car.

Thanks

The green light is hit or miss on an AC Delco. It's not necessarily a real indication that the battery is good. I have one in my garage that's junk and it has a green light. Go figure.

If in doubt change it. Too many stories of dead or leaking AC Delcos around here

Hi nmbsun -

12.8v indicates a fully charged battery.

In order to be certain, remove the battery and have it tested against a carbon pile load tester.

I have a 2000 K-series truck with the stock battery in it, and it still gives me the old "green-eye" (it is still looking green to me....)

The AGM battery from my 2002 Z06 already signed off and I replaced it with "another popular battery with a red top... "

best regards -

My battery seems to have lost alot and I have a 2003. It sits for just a few days and the car wont just. I am going to replace it just in case, is there any particuilar procedure for doing that on a corvette? Or is it the same, will I lose anything important when the battery is totally disconnected? And i also just bought a battery minder to use while it sits during the winter.
Any specific battery you all suggest?
thanks

Hi ram965 -

Here is one of the recent threads discussing batteries.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...ghlight=optima

Search or Optima or Orbital, you can buy Optima Red Tops at autoZone, Costco etc. The Exide Orbital are sold at Sam's Clubs.

I think you win either way - I chose the Red Top becuase it is good looking underhood, especially with red fuel rail covers like on a Z06.....

best regards -
