C4 guy looking to move up...
Musts:
Yellow
Regular coupe (Not a FRC or Z06)
Manual transmission
HUD
Stock stereo (no hacked up dash with big boxes everywhere)
Emissions Legal (I live in CA)
Preferred:
Both tops
Z06 Chrome wheels
From what I've heard, the color is limiting me to a 2000 and newer model.
What are the pro and cons of the different years. I'm considering the 2000 to 2002, because the newer ones are significantly more expensive. Was the HUD availible in 2000? Does the oil blow by problem show up in the LS1 or only the LS6? I read the stickey already - so tell me what you know!
p.s. (I'm keeping the C4.

Common failures for specific years?
Common failures for specific years?
1. Some 2001's did have an oil consumption issue (early '01's I believe).
2. All years have a problem with the Column Lock (anti-theft device). You will want to get a Column Lock Bypass if the car you buy does not already have one installed. The Recall does not fix the problem on a manual car!!!!!!
3. The rear differential is known to leak. Not sure if this is on all model years. It did on my '02.
4. Power windows and locks can act up.
5. The air conditioners condensor overflow hose can clog up and leak water into the passenger footwell near where the BCM and one fuse box live.
6. Non AGM batteries have been know to leak acid on to the PCM and destroy it. '01 and '02, and maybe '03's went to an AGM battery to prevent this. I'm not sure, but I think GM went back the Lead Acid battery in '03 or '04. Just keep an eye there and you'll be fine.
7. Ground points can become corroded and cause the PCM and BCM to act strangely.
There are many more, but these are the ones I've read about the most, and I'm tired of typing. All are nuisances, nothing major if you keep a watch out for them.
All in all the C5 is a great car, and I love mine. I wish I'd bought one sooner
Good Luck with the search.

Congrats! Excellant choice. I made the jump from C4 to C5 about a year and a half ago. I see you're going to keep your C4....good for you....I wish I had kept mine, but garage space was at a premium at the time, and my 'other baby' had to go.
Make sure you read the complete stickies
at the top of C5 general... weights, measures...
and the one at the top of C5 Tech called column lock......
I could never sell the 92 - it's actually my wife's car! She loves that body style more than anything on the road. There's a bunch of sweat and tears in that car and I finally got it to stop leaking engine oil.
I'm flying down on the 4th to pick it up!
