Default Memory Seat Question

My memory seat seems to be acting up - sometimes doesn't "remember" when I crank the car- other times it works fine. Any thoughts/suggestions as to what I need to check?? Thanks

I learned to live with mine that way . same issue .
It seems to me , but I may be wrong , that the memory issue has something to do with wether you insert the key and start the car before you close the door . mine seems to work fine , if I sit in , close the door first then start the car .
but sometimes I will reach in and start the car in the morning to let it warm up , and it does not keep memory then .

My God man, you read my mind! I was about to post the same question! I just bought a '00 convertible that suffers from the same thing. Not only doesn't the memory always work (when the "easy exit" option is turned on), but sometimes the seat moves on its own while I'm driving. Most disconcerting! I look forward to others' comments.

Sorry if I'm teaching Granny to suck eggs.

Dont forget that the memory only works when you have used the fob to unlock the car. If the door was unlocked or you used the key it has amnesia. The settings for drivers seat, rearview mirror and telescopic wheel are fixed on programming. It recalls the last settings for A/C, radio etc from the last time you used the car.

Even so, mine has occasional bouts of forgetfulness too.

Now that shouldn't happen

You may have rocking seat syndrome there.

Corvettezman, mine does just the opposite. I have to start the car with
the door open. SCM works fine then. I have had the complete control
mechanism replaced, it still does not work properly. If I drop the battery cable and erase the memory it works fine for a short time then the specters reappear. Oh Well, it's a minor inconvenience.

Mine does the same thing. The one discernable pattern I've been able to see is that if the door is open when I insert the key the seat won't move. However, even if I close the door first, sometimes the seat won't move. So I just reach over and hit the appropriate button on the door and then everything moves into place.

BTW, I have easy exit turned on.

Mine is totally mentally retarded (no offense to the challenged people out there.) Goes where it wants to when it wants to. Am living with it.

I have an 2004 that likes to do the same thing from time to time. I took it to the dealer, but the car wasn't in the mood to act up there. So, I live with it.

Default it ain't heavy, it's your key ring?

Might the keys on your key ring be to heavy, causing the key to 'wiggle' in the lock, and making the system think your removing the key and then reinserting it?

I had read something about this not too long ago here on the forum...

Also regarding 'forgetting when cranking the car', how's the battery, might it be getting old and the voltage is dropping too much during cranking?

Thankfully, our 2000 works flawlessly (knock on wood, new battery though)...

This is kind of funny I was thinking of posting a question about this. Not the exact issue but something similar. My "settings" seems to take on a mind of their own and put the mirrors and seat in strange position once I leave the car. When I get in everything is like the opposite of where it was when I got out. I hit my memory 1 spot and it returns to where it was programmed to. Easy exit stuff is off (although have not checked it in 2 weeks) but this has been going on longer than that. Any ideas? Maybe I just need to pull the battery and reset everything.

Thanks
Fej
