Sounds about right for the stock stat. I use 160 stat and run 181 sitting in traffic and about 170 on HWYs.

i have a stk replacement and run just under 200. but its around 40 degrees here. i had a 160 t-stat but it fell apart on me, and i couldnt get over 120 then after for ever of driving. my car seems to like the stock one more than the other, heats up fast and stays there. my heater works better too

Seems a bit warm

Have you checked to see if you've picked up rubbish in the radiator?

2002 A4, stock thermostat.

198-199 Hwy, typical all year round. In the desert with 115 outside, was 210-215 at 75mph cruise.

210-225 In town, depending on the stop and go, but on hot summer days maybe as high as 235. Usually, I can get it back to 200 with the A/C on and the engine fans running.

Yes and have your fans set to come on at a lower temp. This is done by a tunner.

I run a little cooler on the highway, but those numbers sound about right in town.

On long road trips and 80mph, I see 200 degrees and above quite frequently. Mine is an 04 with the stock thermostat.

UPDATE. i read mine all the way home and all the way bnack to work today. i never got hotter than 187. with my stk one i installed a few weeks ago. outside temp 48. i understand stk ones can have a 10 degree variance. as all can. so i think your in range for the norm. check your radiator for leafs and other junk though. i seen a post here a week ago that showed lots off trash in the front of it. even a mcdonalds cup.

200 - 210, give or take a few degrees, is normal, but sucks. When I switched to a 160, alot of problems, including pinging and lack of power when hot went away. I even got better gas mileage. Note, however, that you'll need to retune either via a professional tuner, tuning software, or a handheld programmer to adjust the fans to come on at a lower temp, too, for optimal results. Otherwise the temps will still hit the 200 range in town during the summer, and often even higher at traffic lights. Of course, there are also those add-n fan temp switches, but they seem kind of high-school-mod-ish, to me.

My '04 runs 194 on the highway and in stop and go it runs from 200 to 225 then the fans kick in at 225 and it goes back down to 215 depending on the ambient temp and how long I stop or go slow...(in the colder weather it runs cooler in stop and go)its all normal
