Radar Ratings and Testing!!!!!

Seriously though, you have 30 days- test the sucker out and if it dosen't amaze you then return it for a refund.
Read any comparison. The X50 and the V1 always finish neck-and-neck. As far as features, the X50 has some the V1 doesn't, and vice-versa. The most noticeable feature unique to the V1 are the arrows. Everyone makes such a big deal about the arrows. If you feel you can't live without the arrows, buy a V1. Me, when the detector goes off, I slow down. Seems the cracks about "features" and "inferior product" are coming from people who want to feel good about the $400 they spent.
Someone posted that the arrows saved him because he gets painted from behind and doesn't always watch his mirrors. That makes no sense. If the cop is right behind you and paints you, you're busted. If he's a ways back and is painting oncoming traffic, your detector will go off. If you follow the "if it beeps slow down" rule, again it doesn't matter where the signal is coming from. So what if you know he's behind you. You don't know if he's gaining on you or going the opposite direction. You can't speed up when it stops beeping because he might be gaining on you and will paint you from very close behind when it's too late to slow down.
Exactly. My last comment was made in fun (mostly), too, since the comment about the V1's looks HAD to be a joke as well (right?). I mean, who buys a detector based on looks? I buy based on how it works.
A detector is a lot like insurance, I suppose. We should all probably have more insurance, but we usually buy only what we hope we need, and then hope we don't need it at all. But when we have a problem, we wish we had opted for more coverage. The V1 is no different. Sure, $400 is a lot of coin. But, the way I see it, you're paying for additional coverage. I believe that it gives you MAXIMUM coverage, especially where the arrows are concerned.
I always tell the story of how I was able to track a statey who was traveling the opposite side of the highway, who then turned around in the median back where I could no longer see him, then who inched his way back up behind me through traffic. I was able to warn my folks who were traveling in the "passing" lane that this guy was coming up behind up (despite the fact that I couldn't see him). The arrows showed where he was the whole time, and the bogey counters showed me that it was the same guy. And this might not even be the best example of how the arrows give you more information than you get with other detectors.
If the arrows cost more money, then so be it. I opted for greater coverage. With people spending $400 for interior trim pieces and whatnot (which *I* think is crazy), it makes the price of the V1 relative -- and the whole argument against it being too expensive an old, tired argument, especially when it gives you more info toward SAVING you additional money from tickets.
Railing against V1 OWNER is fine, especially if they make you feel like you made the wrong choice in detectors. Railing against the V1 is just silly.

A much bigger advantage the V1 has is that when it goes off, those big arrows light up and really catch your attention. This is very important when cruising with the top off and radio blasting. When I had the Bel I would never notice it going off while driving like that.

The 8500 X50 tells you how many signals its getting as well.
Only the V1 has the arrows.
For me the arrows weren't worth $130. Like I said before, if it beeps I slow down.
Any of the top 3 should give you piece of mind and save your butt. It only takes one hit to pay for its self.
Let's say your detector goes off and it shows the bogey is behind you. You check your mirror, determine if one of the three cars behind you is an LEO, and then decide whether to slow down or not? You might as well just pull over and get your license and registration out.
You have no idea, at the time the detector first goes off, what is "actually going on." You don't know if the LEO is approaching you from behind or moving in the opposite direction. The smartest thing you can do is slow down until you can assess where the danger actually is. Can you make that assessment more quickly with the arrows? Sure. So you can get back to speeding a good 30 seconds before I do. That just means you get a nicer parking spot when we get there, it doesn't mean you've had time to drink your first cup of coffee.
So why aren't we all driving Fords, because "quality is job 1" over there. Oh, wait, that's Ford's own slogan...
Sorry, I just refuse to drink the Kool-Aid. If the V1 were priced competitively with the X50 (given that they constantly run neck-and-neck in objective comparison tests) I might buy one.
