Well in the process of making a decsion of which radar detector I will get my moneys worth. And so far still having a bit of trouble deciding. I've seen more positive talk in regards to the Valentine1 Radar than any other. But I found the following site on 2006 radar testing results.

Call Valentine Research at 1 800 331 3030 and ask for a returned V1 and you will get 10% off the retail price of $399. It will be the latest version V1.8 POP2 w/ Euro-mode and 3.826 firmware and that comes with all the accessories and a 1 year warranty.

Those models sometimes tough to come by - you might have to wait alittle bit.
The V-1 and the 8500 X50 are both top of the line units.
I have 2 8500 X-50 's and the latest V-1....
Based on my preference, I choose to keep the V-1 in Vettes and use the 8500's in both my/my wife's daily drivers....
You may want to look at the Motor Trend Radar Detector Buyer's Guide as well. They have one from 2004 and one from 2005.
I personally opted for the 8500 X50. I don't really care where the radar is coming from. My rule is if it goes off I slow down. I got mine for $270, so it was $130 cheaper than the V1.
If you want a detector that is great out of the box and upgradeable, tells you how many signals it's getting, and tells you where there signals are coming from, then get the V1.
If you want something that offers less, then get something else.

The upgradeable thing is a bit misleading. It's not like you can just download a firmware update and flash it. It's a trade-in program, and if you've got one that's a couple of versions old you end up paying quite a bit to upgrade.
The 8500 X50 tells you how many signals its getting as well.
Only the V1 has the arrows.
For me the arrows weren't worth $130. Like I said before, if it beeps I slow down.

You made a good decision. This will pizz off the V-1 users as bad as if you would have cheated with their wives though. They take it personally Bottom line is you have to go with the one you are comfortable with and you did the appropriate research to that end.
