Scary situation. I have never heard of a problem like this in the GSD3s. So far mine are perfect. Anyone elese experience this or heard of this problem?
Glad you're OK. Consider filing a complaint with the NHSTA - sounds like a safety issue to me.
I would not have a problem except that this is the second time for me. I am begining to wonder if i just happened to get a bad batch and would be very interested in hearing of any other problems with this specific tire 285/35/18
Glad you're both OK and no harm done to the car. But, Firestone???? They have a worst record than GY when it comes to tire failures, claims, road deaths, recalls, etc. Personally, I'd stay far, far away from Firestone. Good luck.
I am glad to hear this because I have been looking at the GSD3's and the Nitto 555's about decided on the GSD3's. Any other suggestions out there for tires that people have liked?
Glad to hear you're both safe after that. Definitely would have increased the pucker factor. Turns out I had a similar situation a while back with the Continentals on my Audi. The pressures were always WNL and the wear was OK. But when I pulled one of the front tires off to do some brake work, I nearly severed my fingers when I cut myself on the exposed steel bands. You couldn't see the damage because it was on the vehicle side of the tire. Needless to say, no more Continentals after that episode.

That's my point. One is bad luck, two is hmmm, what's going on here....
I had a sidewall blow out on a fairly new GSC (less than 1K miles) on my old Camaro. I treated it as a fluke. I still have GY tires on all my vehicles - vette, jeep, police car.
I hear your frustration, and I wonder if it was a bad batch of rubber
that you got a hold of. As another poster said the GoodYear GS-D3
has high marks from many different make/model owners. In fact this
is the first time I've heard of this happening to a customer.
I'm on my second set of GS-D3's with nary a problem, and while I'm
sure that is of no comfort to you, I wonder what the issue with the
tire really is.
I've never had a problem with any GY tires that I have had over the past 30 years. And we have 3 cars and a van. All GY's. This is also the first time I have heard of this problem. I do have D3's on my ride and love them. But I will be checking out their condition a lot more closely now.
Really glad your alright!! That could have been disasterous for sure. And I can't blame you for how you feel about GY. But Firestone has had a really bad rep in the past and I hope your OK with that.

They were also the only correctly sized tires available on a saturday afternoon in the middle of nowhereland California. I would have prefered the Kumho's which I have heard many good reports on. All that being said and After having driven the Firestones for a few days, I gotta tell you that I am very impressed with how well they hook up. But you may rest assured I will be keeping a close eye on ALL my tires from now on, including the 2 remaining GS-D3s, AND the Firestones
