Goodyear.....GoodBye....Forever
About 1.5 years ago I had a sidewall failure on a brand spanking new GS-D3. Thought it was a fluke, used my warranty and replaced the tire and went on with my life. Well yesterday I had another fail in the same way and I am So pissed. I was with the honey headed to an important function, southbound on 99 @ 75mph when the left rear, Another GS-D3, blew out causing me to spin
540 degrees and wind up facing the wrong way on the shoulder. I thought I must have run over something in the road. As it turned out there was nothing in the tire, no damage to the front tire and no other problem other than the gapping hole in my sidewall.
Consequently, My car saw the back of a tow truck for the first time
my honey had to miss a very important family function
and even worse, we could have been killed
and we spent 3 hours at the local tire dealer waiting for them to locate and mount 2 new rear tires
pay the passing through stranded tourist tax
and on close inspection there was no penetration on the tire.I now have 2 new Firestone Firehawks, wide ovals and I am expecting 2 new fronts from a forum member next week. I will never buy another GoodYear tire as long as I live
. They are overpriced and underperform. They take no responsibility for the failure of their products and could care less if we had been killed in the middle of the California Desert
. I am even thinking of boycotting the superbowl because of that big fat ballon they fly over it with. Am I getting accross the fact that I am slightly pissed? Bye Bye GoodYear!! F**k off and DIE!!

Did you have any indication that something was amiss? Were you running normal air pressure in the tires? Did you feel any vibrations or wobbling out of the ordinary? Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending GY or looking to blame you - I'm just trying to understand.
So many of the problems with tires can be traced back to over or underinflation. That whole mess with the Firestone tires and the Ford Explorer was due in large part to the proper inflation of the tires and the loading of the vehicles. I'm really sorry that you had a terrifying experience like that, but if you could share any insight about the factors that lead up to it - that would be a benefit to everyone here.
Again - glad everyone made it through that harrowing experience!
Now, she lives in Noth Carolina{ Go Heels } and went this past month to have the tires rotated and balanced, and was told no one in Wilmington honored that warranty. Called Goodyear's 800 number and was told everybody honored it, asked Goodyear to tell us which dealer, and they couldn't.
Currently trying to get my money back for the warranty, but now they want to prorate the cost per the miles on the tires.
I am afraid that I am in the same boat.
Never going to be a next time.

Glad your OK. Just for future reference, there have been alot of posts that state that Firestone will not plug run flat tires. IMHO, Michelin's are the best. You pay for them but as yoru example states, my life, or anybody's life is worth more then teh $100 you might save by purchasing an inferior tire?
I am surprised your blow out was so severe. I thought runflats weren't supose to do that.

Tirerack ranks tire pretty high. Sorry you had the problem.
I run Goodyear tires on both my vettes and Toyota. Never had
a problem. Used Goodyear for over 30 years no problem.

I would be real curious to know what almost did me in if i had a similar problem.

I wrote Goodyear off some time ago.
