I will admit it i once took my vette on the parkway and took her up to 100 then i got off the parkway and that was it i just wanted to see how fast she could go.I never race on the local streets even though some nuts want to- i don't want a ticket.

If you speed and get caught,. just don't fricken whine about how unfair it is.....

As far as street racing, talk to someone who has lost a family member due to some idiot thinking he had it all under control.

If you bought a performance car because you need to show your masculinity you are going to have problems...

There's a time and place for everything. Just cause the speed limit says 55 doesn't mean you need/should do 55. On the other hand, if it says 55, perhaps you could go 155 safely?? --Prudence-- is the word for this thread.

Having lived in Germany for serveral years, I can safely say that speed in and of itself often is not an issue..when used prudently. Driving recklessly (regardless of speed limits) is what causes trouble, not how fast you are going.

To all the LEOs out there, act professional and you'll have my respect...most of you already do and probably know the ones within your ranks that don't.
Of course there are going to be some a-hole cops... Just as in any other field.... The majority of the "jerk" cops you come in contact with are traffic cops... And for those traffic cops out there, don't jump on me, but they are the ones that pull 20-30 people over a day sometimes... Thats what they do, apart from working traffic accidents... They sometimes become robots and hence the "a$$hole" attitude comes out more often... The "Hurry up and sign the ticket so I can get another stat"... Is that wrong? Perhaps, but did you violate the law and should you be issued a citation for doing so? YUP... Its the officer's discretion if they want to let you off with a warning... and in the case of the Traffic cops, thats what they do, issue citations... its not a bad thing.. thats their particular assignments

To give some of you a perspective on things that you may not have thought of before.....

Most PATROL cops are stopping cars for 1 of a few reasons:

1) You did something REALLY stupid in front of them and caught their attention, in which case probably just an A$$ chewing and verbal or written warning is coming
. a.) unless your a jerk or a$$ which will land you a ticket

2.) They are looking for someone to arrest, being "proactive" and use the vehicle code violation you just committed as PROBABLE CAUSE to stop you and check you for warrants.
. a.) If you have none, usually a verbal warning will follow
. b.) If you have a warrant, stand by to stand by
. c.) Make sure your license is valid too!!

3.) They are trying to "make a few stops" as either requested by their bosses to show they are enforcing traffic, to get some "traffic" stats, or just to enforce traffic laws and keep the streets safe.

9 times out of 10, if you are in a Corvette, as most of you here are.... and you are pulled over for speeding and issued a citation for it... its probably going to be a traffic cop and not a patrol cop... Now this obviously depends on the area in which you live... More rural areas obviously patrol cops have less Domestic Disputes and other stuff to handle, so they may also be traffic cops... But in the cities, patrol cops usually have little time to make traffic stops...

Here's a tip that I think should be a public service announcement in EVERY town in EVERY state.......

WHEN a cop is behind you, and it seems like maybe he is following a bit too closely, GET OUT OF THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GUESS WHAT!?!?!?! If your going to get pulled over, the cop will FOLLOW you when you do so, so just get out of the way so they can get by... and you will find out quickly if they are after you!!

The VAST majority of the time, the cop is just trying to get by the car in front of him/her and just wants them to MOVE over... Using lights and sirens is not always a viable option, and that usually gets the "OH CRAP WHAT DO I DO?!?!" response out of most drivers... and they usually just end up stomping on the brakes, which doesn't help the LEO's situation at all...

Someone on the forum asked why you don't get a lot of LEO's piping up on issues regarding tickets.... I hope I helped out a bit on the thought process of LEO's... Now obviously the above are MY opinions, but that is what I can give... and I hope some more LEO's will pipe up with their thoughts... and the rest of you guys can learn some techniques on how to avoid getting into trouble!

PS: No nasty grams from traffic cops out there!!! You know I LOVE you all!!!

I agree with this thread 110%. Speeding is not a safe thing, although i KNOW that we all do it. 55 km/h in a 50 zone, thats not over board, and most people you see driving do it. Speed and pay the price, own up to it like a man. Part of the game, and yet another reason to watch where you are speeding, because chances are, the places you shouldnt are where you will get caught!!

Police do their duty, and often get flamed for it. the .1 percent of policemen that do pull you over with an attitude are the ones that give the rest of the 99.9% of the population a poor reputation. Any police man/woman that i have ever met(which is many, i have close family/friends in the force) are quite genuine in their wish to help the public. It is understandable when an ex-leo would be extremely offended by this. My .02 deposited

If someone posts on here that they got a ticket, and then say "live and learn" or something to that effect... nobody would flame him/her..

its just when you get people bragging about it and then throwing the blame anywhere besides themselves...

They usually just try and start a "cop flame".... which is juvenile... and plus you have a lot of cops on this forum that don't like speeders that whine about being "victimized"

Nicely put. I for one am not a hypocrite. If I find myself running a light then the next one I see is a freebie. I don't write cites until they hit 20 mph over the limit, because I try to stay within 10 mph myself. I have even caught both racers on occasion, and given them a stern verbal warning instead of arresting them if I see honest remorse for the gravity of the situation. When I get the "I'll see you in court @*%@^@%" attitude they get all the game coming to them. Bottom line is it's a thankless job for the most part, and I HATE to hear the "I only got stopped because of -fill in the blank BS-. Police Officers have a code of ethics they are bound by. We do not make stuff up to falsify charges or cites. In my opinion a dirty cop is worse than the criminal he/she is trying to arrest. No rule is important enough to enforce by breaking another rule.

Having said that, SAVE THE WAVE and have fun in your Vettes, I know I do!

Exactly... I don't most people realize how STUPID it would be to "make something up"... First off... there is enough violations in the Vehicle Code to where you don't need to make something up...

Second, and most importantly... Why would I trade my ~$50,000 year job and maybe some time in jail for a stupid speeding citation or simple arrest?!?!!?!?!??!!?!?!?!!??!?! If I "make something up" I am violating the law under the color of authority... its simply not worth it... and not needed

I've been very fortunate in fifty years without a speeding ticket. Not to say i haven,t ever put my foot through the floor, because i have. One thing i have always considered, when and where because of safety reasons. but if i am ticketed in the future i am aware of the old saying "can't do the time ? don't do the crime" So you won't see me here crying or flaming the LEOs If it happens, i,ll pay the ticket and move on.

Default I just remembered...

My last speeding ticket was in a Ford Explorer in ....like 1996 or so..
I was on I-90 in CT.
I was going 71 in a 65, and I told the cop that I was..(They normally give you 5 or 10 above)...NOPE..LOL..
It's sometimes...just a business...

There are high performance cars and there are low performance drivers.
I guess that's why we have limits.

2 more months before I go to the track. Can't wait.

I feel the need for speed....but I'll wait till then.
