Thinking of powder coating a few parts myself just got my hands on a free oven so i want to try it out. I have been doing bc/cc work all winter long on the vert and all is good so this sounds like a less then a moderate challenge i would like to do the water pump and brake parts also. i was told that you do not have to remove the rubber in each cal. piston is this true? and as far as the water pump goes , what parts if any must be removed on the interior of pump before baking, any pics of your finished work would be thanx
Chris.
I have to agree with willfulone, strip the calipers or you'll melt the rubber boots and o rings. I've done three sets of calipers and always stripped the calipers and tape the bores and all threaded holes on the reverse side. Make sure the area where the brake line is attached is kept very clear of powder as there is a recess there for a crush washer. I made that mistake once. Quite a job cleaning that up to accept a new washer.
I never had my pump off so can't help with that.
Good luck
thanx for the help, just one more question.. can you use a standard gas or LP oven to cook the parts or do you have to use electric? I can get a gas oven for free, i hear the the fumes could be and are flammable in a gas or flamed oven???.. Thinking of getting the hotcoat system from eastwood, thanx again...
