See, when I buy cars I plan on driving them. Obviously I am not going to beat the vette to death and will keep the mileage low but I am going to drive and and not worry everyday about the resale value. I found out tonight it is paint and who knows, it may look better in person as I've seen cars that looked like crap in pictures but great in person and vice-versa.
Can you elaborate on the rims? I like the chrome look but I can get originals for free. Why are they junk? How much weight roughly does it add? Enough to hinder performance? 20lbs I'm not too too worried about. I'm not being rude in anyway, I just don't know. Once again thanks for all the help.
We can only hope to help you. Please reconsider. I wouldn't Walk away I would RUN away!! Plenty of nice cars close to you. The price is way out of line for what it is and the painted doors a YUK! Protect your credit and protect your funds. I could pay cash for that and wouldn't have it at any price. Remember, if you go to sell it, the largest market would be guys like us!
The next thing you know there will be a "Bun" in the Oven and you'll need to sell it.

My Best to you and your super wife!
Pull out! I could not live with that red on the doors! If it is paint, get an estimate to redo to stock, and get the dealer to deduct from deal price!
You're young, don't let emotions take over your head. THIS IS NOT THE ONLY ZO6 IN THE WORLD!
That's through usaa and that's without a multiple car discount. 758 through a progressive quote. I know it's ugl but the more and more I look at the red it brings out the silver, and I guess there's black trim thats vinyl around the red the dealer said that you can't see in the pic so it might not be that bad. Plus I love the mod-red interior. Doesn't that add value. Does anyone know if I should get the stock rims? I kind of like those but will they really hinder performance a lot? Also I think they are original tires as in the picture it shows eagle f1 and they look pretty nice. Thanks for all the advise and answers.

I know it's tempting, but I really wouldn't do it.
I won't be presumptuous about your financial status, but **** does happen. You will more than likely find yourself in an upside-down loan situation with this car unless you're putting a substantial amount down. You'll find it very difficult to sell with that red paint on it. It IS a personal preference thing, but I think it ruins the car. It's fugly. Plain and simple. Why do you think the dealer is giving you so much for your old car? They know they'll be sitting on it for a while or will have to drop the price substantially.
The chrome wheels are A. knock-offs which cannot by rule be as solid as OEM or a major manufacturer's rims B. add weight. Weight at the wheels can make a big difference. Rotational mass! The OEM wheels are ultra-light.
What if I get him to go to 38 out the door with the factory rims? Would that seem like a good deal? How bad would it hurt the value to have it painted back to machine silver there? He won't budge off 39 cause i've been trying for a few days but I'll give it one last shot. I really love the interior and I've been searching and unable to find one at a dealership. When I say out the door I mean tax title and everything btw.
Cool, that's good to know. I plan on having this car for a real long time. I'm in the usaf so it should be paid off by the time I get out or if I stay in by the time my current enlistment is up. I'm sorry I really can't wait, I LOVE that interior and the car has every option (all what? 4 extra). I'll find out monday.
First off allow me to say that your interested in a great car(c5z). Now for the rest of my .02: The rims are not a big deal at all. Are factory wheels lighter? Yeah. Are they stronger? Yeah. But, the repro's aren't going to hinder the performance in anyway that you'll notice. Its not like the car has a blower and your taking it off, that would hurt performance. Now as far as the price. A few of my family members have been selling cars for a long time. You could do alot better of a deal than this z. #1 the dealer is adding your trades loan difference into the price of the z. There is no way that they will take a hit on your trade. #2 Say it does cost aleast $1000 to get rid of those red stripes. Now your into the car for at least $40k. Not to mention if you have to sell many buyers are ****, and will be able to see that it was repainted. I too have made some decisions with my heart and not my head. Some have been good, some have been bad. Just make sure you look at all perspectives before you sign that loan contract. Take my advise for what it's worth. Not trying to put you down or up. Just trying to look out for a forum member.

Thanks a lot. I appreciate the advise. The kbb value on my cars trade in is 6k and I owe 8875. They are taking it for 8 and giving me the car for 39 out the door and it's advertised at 38900 I think. I am going to try to get it for 38 out the door so then I am only in it for 39 or maybe have their body shop paint it for free. I really do appreciate all the advise everyone has given me and I know I will have to be the one to take the plunge or not. I have a lot to consider/hash out. But hopefully it will all work out. Thanks again.
Hey, if you do get it, sign up for some HPDE or Auto-X classes as your first investment. Going from a Celica or 90 Corvette is going to be a HUGE shift.
I also had a 79 elcamino with a built 350 with a built turbo 400 so I'm ok on the power side, I'll just ghave to get use to the cornering and launching a high power stick. I wish there were some autocross class near me and what is hpde? I'll definately look into them and see if I can't possibly find something close by. I should invest in a v1 or something for the 1200 mile trip back from OK, lol.
I would never get paint on a Vette done at a dealer. They will want to do a quicky cheapo job. The BSM, even if you like it will have to be removed to paint the doors, and fenders, and then reinstalled. Even a good Vette shop will have trouble blending the paint to match. I would loose the BSM anyway IMO.
I'm telling you, the paint problem makes me cringe! You are getting all hyped up about the deal, but not really how the car will look! You will kick yourself in the *** everytime you look at it!You are kidding yourself if you think a PROPER paint will only cost $1K. Go to a shop that does Vettes, and show them that pic.
Remember, your going to sell it oneday (sooner or later), and if it looks like hell it's going to effect your resale value!
That's just it, I hav eplans for real estate which may or may not fall through but I DO plan on owning this vette for a VERY long time. I'm not concerned about the new z06 or anything like that and I'd make sure it was a reputable paint company if I did get it done and like I said it doesn't bother me leaving it like that. To each his own right? It's kind of growing on me having everyone hate it so much.
I have read all the advice you have been given here on this forum and it has all been good from people that truly care about forum members. I am an old USAF retired Chief who helped many young airman decide their future, my last piece of advice is to read all of the comments herein before you do it. my guess is you are going to buy it regardless of what has been provided. good luck with the Z06.....

I commented earlier and re-read the thread. I will make one final comment and step out of the conversation.
You have mentioned in your first post that you are not in love with the stripes. If you are going to pay top dollar for a car (and at this price, you are paying TOP dollar), why in the world wouldn't you get a car that is EXACTLY what you want. If I read between the lines here, you seem to be motivated as much by the fact this dealer is willing to bail you out of your negative equity in the Celica?? Big deal, you can sell the Celica outright and find another Z (at a better price and without stripes) and be $thousands ahead - big deal if you have to wait 3-4 months for it to happen. You said youself you are young and plan on owning the car for a long time - make sure it is EXACTLY what you want (and not the first "deal" you find) and that you are getting treated well. This dealer sounds iffy if they are making this deal over 1200 miles.
Kerbeck has a silver 2006 coupe for $41K. Brand new Zero miles. In September they will be selling the same thing for 39K. Maybe they would give you $4k for a trade in.
This car is overpriced. Lets just say I wanted it and if I were to buy it I wouldn't pay over $34K and even that would be near the top of it. If your car is worth $6k that means your only getting $4k.
How much are the payments going to be on the Z? Think about putting that same payment down for the next 6 months on your current car instead and getting into a better price position for a trade.
