This is my new pet Peeve lately
Welcome #1stunna- 6spd vs Auto is really a drivers race it's very close, gearing in the 6speed is a little more agressive with 342 vs the auto 273 or 315 depending on which option you get.

What I want to know is what gives you and TA2C5 the right to come into this thread and pass judgement on someone's discussion?
If you recognize this thread as one you have seen a million times why not just ignore it. If you have nothing relevant to add to the conversation mind your own business.
As far as using the search feature. That's fine and might give someone some background information but what if someone had some point of view to convey or they just wanted to participate in a thread they started or one that is current?
You guys that come into these threads just to pass judgement and act as if you are better than everyne else because you have unlimited time to be on this forum make me sick.
If you have nothing relevant to say in any thread then stay out!

That would be entirely true if the transmissions were geared the same. But the A4 only has 4 gears and the M6 has 6. The bottom line is that it boils down to the driver.
#1Stunna, welcome to the forum.
And for all the newer members out there, did anybody mention that the forum has a real nice search feature.
As others have mentioned, this topic has been beat to a pulp.

Unless the rules have changed, I thought anyone could comment on any thread, as long as the answer did not include foul language, selling drugs, guns, street racing, illegal activities, etc.
I did not know I had to answer to you regarding a thread of mine. If my comment bothered you soooooo much, I'll offer you the same advice you gave me. You have absolutely no right pass judgement on anything I say on this forum. "If you have nothing relevant to say, then stay out." And believe me----you have nothing relevant to say. Have a nice day.

...and while the salty dogs and curmudgeons of the CF engage in their intrafraternal pissing match, my question posted above remains unanswered...
I don't know for sure but I will take a shot at this. I believe your A4 will shift at the shift points defined in your computer. I do not believe you will ever hit red line when allowing the car to shift on it's own as computed.
If, however, you were to move the shifter to, say, second gear and then stomped on the gas and did not let up I believe you would then hit red line and your car would act accordingly.

Just my opinion. Hope this helps.
So holding the pedal to the floor when in D will cause shifting at whatever predetermined points were designated in the programming, whereas manually placing it in any other gear and doing the same pedal action will take it to redline. Interesting. Thank you. I'm wondering if the same holds true for dropping it into 3rd. I'll have to conduct a little experimentation when it is safe to do so.

Letting someone know of your vast experience at spotting a dead horse being beaten, especially someone new to the forum, adds no value to anyone's experience here on the forum. So why bother except to make yourself feel better at the expense of others.
This was not "your" thread and I added my opinion that was related to the thread owner's subject.
Your comments only motivated me to state my opinion of what you are all about.
I may truly have nothing of value to say and that's okay with me but you won't see me trashing someone elses thread just to show of my ability to use little picture icons.

I bet all of you use the search function before you post every thread, especially when you had 0 posts and were new.
Forum police are so great. It never gets old. 4 or 5 in every forum. You know who you are.
On Topic: 6spds are faster. Yes it depends on the driver, but generally, unless you can't drive stick, they are faster.

It's easy to see how you might have been confused as the Corvette was originally rolled out as an automatic only. The manual transmission was only an afterthought that was added later.
I've had 3 automatics and they were fun. I'm 59 now and have a 6-speed and am having the thrill of my life. Anybody can beat me because I prolong the gear changes at moderate speeds just to hear the roar of my corsa; especially with the top down. Buy what you want, drive safely, no racing except on the track, and keep waving!!!
