How do you get the sensor out? Do you have to remove the tire or can you just break the bead and get your hand in there to remove?. What is an easy way to break the bead without a tire shop involved ? Any ideas/thoughts.Thanks
Wait a minute! You can't just replace the battery? And is the battery drain related to time or mileage (i.e., is the transmitter ALWAYS on, or just when the car is rolling)?
The 97-00 TPS broadcast their pressure on a regular interval regardless of whether you are driving or not. These batteries run down more quickly because of this.
01-04 TPS broadcast their pressure very infrequently when not moving (once every couple of hours), and much more often when the tire is rolling. This prolongs the battery life.
I got my 2002 tps from Fred Beans for 125 shipped to my door and before i ordered them i tried local and they were double that so Gene got my business. to Gene
not true!!!! the places these others are telling to go to for lower prices.
they are chevrolet dealers. and they are making a minimal profit to offer these prices to the forum folks. fred beans and gmparts direct. most dlrs will offer parts at full retail price. some WILL offer them at cost plus a few %. shop around worth the few minutes it takes. might not hurt to tell that dlr they lost your buisiness because they had a price hundreds higher than several others.
I called Gene Culley at Fred Beans to get a price on 4 wheel sensors for my 99 vert. $382 shipped to my door in Mass. Called the local dealer who is known around here as a "vette dealership" you know good prices, knowledgable, does more vettes than any other Mass dealerships, yada yada yada. $120 a piece plus sales tax for a grand total of $504. WTF . Think of the money chevy is raking in on these things as the c5s start to have the batteries on these things die. Nothing but an air valve, battery, sensor, couple of circuits and some plastic. Probably cost all of 10 bucks to make. Needless to say I'll be ordering a set from Fred Beans Chevrolet at 30% less than the local "corvette friendly" dealership
Send the old ones to me. I bet i could find a way to replace the battery. I am an engineer and work at Motorola. We work on things like that all the time

All you need is a CR2477N battery with some tabs welded on to it, and a little patience to remove the old battery (and the potting compound.) Solder up the new battery, replace the compound, and you're in business (also saving about 300 bucks.)
When I was looking for my Z06, I wanted one with BSM's... so I went to Chevy dealer and asked how much for BSM, including instalation and painting.. They wanted $120 for each side plus anothe $200 for painting and mounting... $420 for BSM's.... a $75 option originally
