A-men to that, brother! Unless you're trying out for a drifting competition, no reason not to run with full AH or at least comp mode.

I can tell a few of you in this thread are confused about what Traction control and active handling actually are..

Because this is so important to grasp with this car, I will go over it again.. (Sorry for you experts out there, bare with me)

DEFAULT MODE..
Known as "everything on" or Traction control and active handling..
In this default mode, you have both Traction control, and active handling on..(When you turn your car on, it will always default to this mode) Your are most likely going to feel the traction control kick in, as it is very obtrusive to the point that you will feel the car "nose over" during agressive 1-2 shifts, or any other time the computer senses any wheels spin.. You should not use this mode, when you are trying to go fast!!!

Competitive/Competition driving mode..
This leaves Active handling ON, but turns traction control OFF..
You get this mode activated by holding the TC button down for 5 seconds.. Active handling only intervenes when it senses that the cars momentum and direction do not match the car's indetended direction.. The system WILL NOT intervene when the system senses wheel slip. This mode does not slow the car down while at the Drag strip!

EVERYTHING OFF mode..
When you just press the button, this turns "everything off". You are riding without traction control, or Active handling, while in this mode....
Want to do donuts in the parking lot? This is the mode that you want!

Purvis, thanks for the clarification on this. Is there a way to have competition mode on and active handling off? I haven't tried this myself but would you achieve this by holding the TC button down for five seconds to engage comp mode, and then press it once quickly to disengage AH? I realize that traction control by definition would be off in this scenario since comp mode would be engaged.

^ You are still confused... this is easy.

Start car AH/TC are both on

Tap button everything is off so you can do donuts

Hold for 5/7 seconds and car goes into COMPETITION MODE in which tc is gone and AH is on. This lets you drive the car very hard, but with a safety-net if the car gets out of control, that is what AH does

Active handling cannot overcome physics

you can burnout just fine in comp mode, no problem in the water box with et streets. With 450 to the wheel and 3.90 gears, I run comp mode exclusively, even on 305 nitto 555Rs.

I wish the car would start up in comp mode and then allow all handling on with one click and allow all handling off after holding it 5 seconds. OFF is the mode that can get you in the biggest trouble so logically it should take the most effort to engage. GM didn't see it that way.

Ah, good to know. I'll put it in competition mode instead to avoid engaging the traction control but enjoy the benefits of AH when at the drag strip.

Thanks to Purvis as well for the 411 on the differences between AH & TC. I was unsure until his post. Great info.

AH can save you and when it does get goofy at the track... who cares about the time slip. Better to drive away with a scare than be towed.

Great times there for cam only (I went 11.50 @ 120 cam only :o ) and am still trying to figure out HC and now 390s

No, I don't think I'm confused. I know that AH is on and TC is off when comp mode is engaged as Purvis described. My question was whether or not the system allows you to take off AH after you've engaged comp mode but still leave comp mode on. Your end result would be comp mode on (TC is then off by definition) and AH off. It's really just a curious question - I'm not sure there would be a practical application for this setting even if the system allows you to do it (competitive donuts maybe? ).

Perhaps my confusion is that I'm thinking that comp mode does something other than merely turning TC off, in which case, I think my question is moot.

As I understand it, the ONLY thing comp mode does is turn TC off and leave AH on. There are only 3 settings available -- TC and AH on, TC off and AH on (comp mode), and TC off AND AH off (hit the button once turns both off). That's it. Comp mode does nothing else other than turn TC off, leave AH on.

Ow my life to default mode. Car one week old, clueless, first stick shift car, you figure it out.

Comp mode now is typical now. Not much help though when cold.

I have the LapTrax delux wired into the DIC. It is set to turn everything of and I can still use the DIC. Everything goes on in the snow and rain but thats it.

if you want start up in comp mode you need the laptrax electonic controller.i have it & i love it.you never have to worry about what mode you're in & if you don't want it all you do is push the stock button on the console to go to either a/h on or off.

Lap Trax here also. The minute the car is started it automaticaly goes into Comp mode, and this is stated on DIC, which you override dic by hitting reset (stays in comp mode). Also, if conditions warrant, you can hit stock button and go directly to TC/AH mode. As a drag racer, and doing many passes this is a god send, cause I'll forget to go to AH mode otherwise.
