Well i washed my car Friday drove it back in the garage and on Saturday it was dead, security alarm dinging inside although very weak. So since it was still the stock GM battery in there i thought it was about time so went and got the Red Top Optima on Sunday and installed it along with yet another PIAA blulb!
Car cranked right up and let it run for a bit, volt gauage was right around 14 so all was well. Went to start this morning and it was dead again, nothing lit up. Didn't have time to check the cables and it was like below 20degrees last night so i'm thinking either a bad battery from the store or i have some other issues. Anybody experience this before?
The only time I've had that was when I've been working on the car so I've known what the problem was.
There is one gotcha worth checking. The small rotary **** which controls the internal lights (left hand side of the dash behind the steering wheel) can be left cracked. If so, the lights can stay on overninght. Wouldn't have thought it would drain a new battery overnight though.
Thanks Dee, will definitely double check everything when i get home. I"m hoping it was just a bad battery, i did notice however when i cranked it up with the new batter i a charge fault on the DIC but just ignored it as periodically from what i have seen and heard that is not uncommon.
Sounds like your car isn't shutting down properly. It's almost like the (RAP) Retained Accessory Power is not shutting down. I would recharge the battery and see if anything stays on that shouldn't be after shut down!!.
There are a couple of other things that can cause battery drain issues. The seat control **** can get stuck, the memory seat setting can get messed up continuously try to adjust the seat to a bogus setting, the interior and hood lights can remain on. I would look at your car in the dark and see if anything or any lights are on that you don't see in the day time. See if you see any dash lights that remain on. 02 and up C5's had a different interior lighting scheme than later C5's. The dash lights stay on for a little while after you shut and lock the doors. They should go out shortly after shut down.
Yeah, i think it was that gotcha Dee! Amazing how that little light would drain a battery overnight. For the life of me i don't remember even turning the **** to that position. Along the way i saw a new message on the DIC, (learning Fob) was a new one on me. I think I"ll take my "Dunce" hat off now! Thanks all
