Well, I was excelerating from a light, nothing abnormal, got up to 54 in a 45 and noticed some lights coming up fast, so I pulled into the slow lane and blue lights come on (it was 2100) and I am thinking, huh?
The Sheriff comes up to my car and tells me that he isn't going to ticket me even though he stated I was doing 60. I told him thank you, but my HUD showed 54. He told me that he clocked me at 60 and that even if it was 54 it was still excessive and I agreed and told him I apprecaite the warning. He said, that this was a very nice car (I agreed) and that he would hate to see me loose it. I was a bit shocked and he walked away. Loose my car for doing 9 over? The guy that was next to me was all over the road and speeding through a residential and I know that these lights I saw followed us at least two miles and he marks me. My PASSPORT 8500 didn't even go off once during this, but it was going off about 1/4 mile before this when we drove through the 35mph residential area (which I drove 35 mph), the guy next to me was not.
I was baffled and then the guy sped passed me after this all happened. I appreciated the warning, but under the circumstance, I was a bit shocked that the entire thing took place.

No matter what happens - being polite and agreeable, not to mention slightly apoloogetic will give you a much better chance at a pass than arguing being obnoxious.
I have several LEO friends, and they've told me giving a pass is totally their discretion. Being a big mouth takes any chance at a pass away. Good job Micah!
I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with the LEO, but thank your lucky stars he warned you and left.
Trust me i've noticed: cops lie...that's why they make lawyers, to keep the pigs straight. Had he given you a ticket i'm certain a lawyer could have cleared things up.
Notice: not all cops lie nor are all cops pigs...however lying cops are pigs, and in my experience, as a young corvette driver, i've met more pigs than i have cops.

you dont get warnings when your young and behind the wheel of a fast sports car. i was profiled about a week ago... was driving home around 1am and an officer is coming in the opposite lane. at the merge a car pulls in front and drives in front for about 100yrds and is totally blocking my car from the oncoming leo. the leo doubles back and pulls me over when i was doing the limit and the guy merging was doing the speeding... he says he tagged me when i was completely out of sight behind the other car. someone needs to police the police on this island

Just keep in mind that a little talkin to, even if condescending, is far cheaper than a ticket or higher insurance premiums. It only costs a little ego and you can recover that after the cops are gone.
I do agree though that the whole speech on what kind of car you have and how much trouble you can get in gets a little old. Especially if they go into the old speed vs safety speech. Speed is not necessarily unsafe, especially in a car designed for it...it is how and when you experience speed that can be unsafe.
However, on the cops behalf...most of us have not seen the ugly results of unsafe driving that most police officers have seen. We might all give the same speech to each driver we pulled over if we were in their shoes.
You will find that the speech changes as you get a little older, but don't ask me how I know!

My first experience with a lying cop was when I was 17. I took it all the way to court, but the judge said that the cop was the "expert witness" and my testimony was totally discounted. That formed an impression that has stayed with me all these years.
As far as losing your car, perhaps your state has a law that says you can lose it if you are caught street racing and the LEO might have thought that was the case. I think at least FL and CA are like that, but I'm not sure. All I know is Indiana law, and we do not have that one.
I don't have an explaination for the difference in your HUD speed and the officers claimed speed. Perhaps you need your speedo recalibrated or the officer needs his radar unit recalibrated. Either way, it was just a warning.

It's a hour after the superbowl, I decide to get gas in my car as it is telling me I'm running on sailboat fuel. In front of me is a truck at the light, dogs in the back barking at everything in sight. The truck turns and I follow to go to the gas station. He's driving like an old lady, dogs barking and jumping at everything in sight. I'm sqeezing my cheeks as I'm picturing pushing the car to the station. I pass the truck and run out of gas pulling into the station. I start pumping gas and a guy walks by and heads to the side of a maintenance building and proceeds to **** in plain sight. Then another fellow walks up to me and says, "Next time you do that 'm going to arrest you." "Mind if I ask what for?" I asked. "You passed me." "Is that against the law?" I then asked. "You were going 50,and I'm a cop," he said. "This street isn't long enough for me to go fifty" I said. He was pissed to say the least and I didn't do a thing. Not to mention the guy pissing on the side of the parking lot.
Moral of the story. DON'T PASS AN OFF DUTY COP HALF DRUNK FROM LOSING HIS GAME ON SUPERBOWL DAY WHEN YOUR WONDERFUL VETTE IS SCREAMING FOR GAS

dont **** off the local cops... they label you and everyone on the force knows when you fart in public and is breathing down your neck everytime you take "your loud corvette" out for a drive. ive only personally met 1 honest leo since ive moved to hawaii i dont think they screen the people who apply here and anyone with a personal vendeta will ruin someones day. i feel really bad for the import guys... everyone hates those mufflers but i think the leo's single them out just because. plus whos a judge going to believe when they both are in court? the leo or 16-25 yr old car enthusiast? dont even get me started on the "locals" who think they own these islands...
maybe he meant it was a nice car and did not want you "to lose" it to a crash driving fast , rather than "lose it " to some speeding law .
I have never known of a law that confiscates vehicles for driving fast ,
now losing a license for driving too fast is a different story .
