Default C5 2002 Engine Troubles

I have a 2002 C5 and was just reading in the new Consumer Reports magazine that the 02' Engine was rated poorly.

Can anyone tell me what the known issues are so I know what to be on the look out for?

Thanks for the info in advance.

Not had any problems with mine

I'd heard that 01 and earlier could be prone to excessive oil useage.

The problem isn't with the engine...the problem is with Consumer Reports.

My son has a 02 and it runs real strong and doesn't use any oil. Hope this helps.

Yep,,, very poor engine! I'll come and tow it off if it gives you any issues. It will fit right in my 65 Coupe!!

My 02 Z06 is the best damn car I have ever owned! ZERO engine issues and I run her HARD! !!

Oil consumption hasnt been an issue up to this point....

They have it wrong. Typical for Consumer Reports and enthusiast vehicles. They should stick to Taurus and Volvos and toasters. The 2002 is noted for its strong engine. The 2000 and 2001 had serious oil consumption problems.

My '01 is a DD and has no oil issues. I guess most cars (unless they are lemons) wouldn't have oil issues if you take proper care of them and change the oil at regular recommended intervals

Ummmm, sort of true. A significant number of the 2001's had oil consumption issues, proper care notwithstanding. There are some threads in here that you can find which will provide the background for you. It was significant. GM did have a fix, but the car had to eat lots of oil before they would go with it.

No problems with my 02. Use about a half of a quart of oil in between oil changes.
