Aerospace job? Sounds like the money in your paycheck is coming from the USA. So driving the best daym American road rocket seems like the natural thing to do...
Hey guys, not trying to troll, but I was hoping to get some feedback on my current dilema. I just finished getting my Bachelors (mechanical engineering woohoo ), and landed an aerospace job which has decent pay (think pluto horizons). So my problem is which car do I really want to buy? I've seen countless Zo6's for $20-30k but in the same price range lies the toyota supra TT.
I've been able to drive a supra before and man, turbos . Hearing a big turbo spool is like the coolest sound any mechanical man made consumer product can make! Supras are definetely more rare, but at the sametime that could be a bad thing.
The Z is a good bang for the buck car, and will continue to be the staple point for american muscle. Parts will be significantly cheaper, and possibley net more hp/$. Then again I see at least 5 a day here in CA.
Power, performance, looks (inones mind), equipment, may be somewhat equal. But with a vette you have an ICON of the automotive industry. People of all ages admire the vette, comment about the vette, look at a veet, dream about a vette, that can not be said about any other car on the road. Power, and performance are not all there is to owning a car. Many many cars have come and gone, but the vette is still here, stronger than ever. My .02 worth is go with the vette.
i think the supra looks good bbut dont they have a problem actually being fast?
i remember seeing a dyno queen somwhere with like700hp and a 12 sec 1/4
my friend has a 94 that dynoed at 400rwhp. He ran a 12.3 on some dr's with traction problems. One thing about the supra vs. corvette. The supra is the same price and its 10 years old... They hold their value very well, even modded and 100k+ miles on the odo. I have noticed after owning a vette for a little over a year, they do not hold their value very well...

Actually, I had to go onto ebay to see what a Toyota Supra looks like. Just typing the name Toyota hurts me.
They have four for sale and they are all '93's or '94's in the mid $20's looks like they will hold their resale value from here on pretty well. Since your a young pup, now is not the time to be wasting money. Seems like you could drive one for a while and sell it without flushing too much money down the drain. Not so on a Vette unless you get into the collectables or low cost ones.
At the end of the day what matters is do what floats your boat & be happy. You might check with your insurance with the same question.
My dad had the same problem when he was shopping for a car in 95! There was the Supra TT and the Corvette. He ended up buying what is known by all, the American Dream Car!
Forget the performance aspects of both cars for a moment shall we?
It's already established that both cars are much faster than we are allowed to legally drive them.
Now lets concentrate on looks.
There is no way in hell a Supra is a better looking car than a C5 Corvette.
If youve ever had a supra behind you and you looked at it in the rear view mirror,,,,,it looks like a car...............but if youve ever had a vette behind you as you viewed it in the rear view, its absolute beauty in motion.

I beg to differ. I love both cars and my Supra looked mean as hell with it lowered on coilovers, TRD vented hood and all the piping visable under the screens and the front mount intercooler showing. To each their own. I love my vette as well and it looks cool as hell lowered with the 345s out back but IMO my supra looked great in the rear view. Now I will say, mine was not stock and it looked much better than stock.
I am a car nut at heart and can appreciate any well put together car keeping taste, my taste specifically in mind My Supra was not rice but pure road race. No stickers, funny lights etc... Just raw power and a well setup suspension. Same with my Vette.
Have fun and go to the track, sniff some race gas and burning brakes. Its all good.

im a die hard 69 camaro big block and 70 chevelle ls6 horsepower lover.i recently purchased a 98 vette cause ive never owned one. they corner great and acceletrate ok for stock production cars. they ride terrible though. the supra is a weapon right from the factory and is a highly desirably car and costs way more than a vette and they is a reason. if you want quality and performance you have to pay for it. i use my 69 camaro and my 70 chevelle for all out straight line accelleration. i use the vette just to get attention and take corners really fast. i also own a stripped down 05 bmw m3 6spd unfortunatly that car out performs everything i own. but each have a purpose. i guess thats the moral of the story. thanks for letting me share my opinion with you guys. great site. yes im a new member.
You're asking people on the Corvette forum for an unbiased opinion? Yeah right! You might find one or two people here that will tell you to go for the Supra that isn't made anymore, but I would bet most will tell you to go for the Z06.
What do you think your response would be if you posted the same question on the Supra forum (assuming they have one....)?
Oh yeah - one more thing....pay a visit to the Supra Museum and take a look at it's 53 year legacy.
LOL.. I like that... 53 Supra...

If your only concentration is speed at a relatively low price, then you can probably accomplish that with the *gulp* Supra. But, if you're looking for a fast, unique automobile that actually LOOKS good, then your choice is clear: Corvette. The Supra looks like a tin box compared to the Vette.
