Sorry about the novel:

Personally, I would take the the z06. To me it's just a better all around car. Not only do you have 405 hp stock, but you are getting 28 mpg on the highway. There were plenty made, and as you can see there is a massive community for parts/mods and tech support/discussion. Because they are common, you can take out the rare factor and not feel as guilty if you abuse it at the track or put on heavy miles. Check out your regional area and you will also see a ton more clubs/events dealing with vettes. There are more elite tuners all over the country as well.

Mod potential has clearly proven itself as well and can exceed anyones real use for a street car (same with the supra.) This car is light and wide enough to do extremely well on the road course but has the engine to go major HP at the drag strip. And with several FI kits now and more keep coming out, mod prices can only go down over time (im guessing.) The z06 already has over the supra a torquey motor and lighter weight which benefits road racing. And if you are still hungry for major power, you can always get a TT/SC kit. And from what I've gathered over time, you should never just use peak hp when comparing say a 500 RWHP z06 vs. a 500 RWHP supra. The power curves are very different (as many have stated on the supra's turbo lag) on the dyno and on the street.

Don't get me wrong on the Supra, it is an amazing car. Some people like the rarity of cars. To me, the rarity is a disadvantage because I like a large community and cheaper parts. You're just getting out of school, so I would think (and hope) you don't plan to spend every $$ you have on mods at first. That being the case, a bolt-on z06 is better all-around than a BPU supra (IMHO.) You have plenty of time in your life to buy/prefer rare cars.

gotpancit, where did you graduate from? It turns out I just graduated from U of M with my BSME and am now also working in the aerospace industry as well.

I am in the market for a C5 after being a Corvette enthusiast my entire life. This sounds obvious, but have you sat in/ test driven a Z06? For years I wanted a C4, but after test driving both back to back, there was no comparison. The seating position and interior room were deciding factors. Anyway, it may come down to a decision as simple as that between the Supra and the Z.

At my company we are getting alot of crap because Boeing now has to compete hard with Airbus for military and commercial orders. In order to secure the order, they are trying to cut costs wherever they can, disrupting their suppliers in the process. Anyway, my point is when all else fails buying American is never a bad thing!

But, I would argue (as others on this post have), that there is really no comparison- especially in terms of handling.

Recent member and Supra owner here. I've been contemplating selling my supra for a c6 (akin to the c5 zo6). I would not trade for a c5 (base). i drove my buddy's c5 the other day, and in comparison to the stock suspension supra, i felt like I was going to die. The tail wagging and body roll was scary as crap. The supra is much more solid and forgiving out of the factor. But back to c6 v. supra comparison:

C6 (base; ~$40k used):
- pro: beautiful, new, strong out of the factory, great power, better traction, better handling (probably), great times: 12s in the 1/4, girls love it more, better track car
- cons: domestic, common, reliability concerns
- concerns: modability? seems like with 10k, you are in 10s - with a supercharger you make nearly 500rwhp

Supra:
- pro: great power potential, rare, realiability, turbos are fun, ok out of the factory (13s); great hwy pwr; cheap and easy to get 400hp
- cons: outdated, expensive to modify after bpu (370-400rwhp; 12s in the 1/4 mile), traction, turbo lag, not track ready unless modded;
concerns: needs too much $$ to match the performance of c6 z06; more $$ in mods than car would be worth stock can only hurt resale value

After compiling this list: the only thing would make me keep the supra would be rarity and reliability.

please feel free to dispute any assumptions ive made. thanks!

I've posted this comaprison on the supraforums and will report any worthwhile responses.
