Default Anyone else buy a diff from LAPD? *****Update*****

******Update below*******

Just curios. I bought a 3.42 replacement diff for my Z06 back in August of 04. I had always suspected that maybe the gear ratio was different then what I had. I hadn't had the car for long when it needed replacement so I chalked it up to the nut behind the wheel. At Roebling I was running with another Z and we noticed we were shifting at different points on the track. Low and behold a few months back a actually check the tag and it's a 2.73. WTF? Now, I'm obviously not very bright for not checking this when I took it out of the box and spent the better part of a weekend installing it. I assumed that the tag numbers where written in secret code like the Fords I was used to working on. What do you do now? Kind of late for a refund.

This had been eating at me for ahwile now. I forgot where I bought it and couldn't find the receipt. Just thought today to check my credit card records.

Anyone else with a similar experience?

I'd call them and at least see what they have to say. I understand that they are upstanding guys at LAPD, although I've never done business with them.

i ordered the tunnel plare from them the middle of february and it still isn't here. i called them last tuesday and they said it was shipped from florida, but friday it hasn't arrived. if it isn't here by tomorrow, i'm cancelling the payment and going with elite engineering. needless to say, i'm not impressed with them.

I had problems ordering a tunnel plate as well. Took so long, that I finally called and cancelled the order. I got the impression that they didn't keep them in stock, and had to order them individually from the supplier. This was a year ago - I would have thought that they'd keep some on-hand since my experience.

Gatorac,

Are you sure you purchased the differential from us? I am asking this because according to our records, we have never ordered a 2.73 diff from GM or sold a 2.73 diff to anyone as we only order 3.42 Z06 diffs from GM.

I order all the parts myself and since we have ordered and sold so many of the Z06 3.42s, I have the GM part number memorized. I order them solely by the GM part number to avoid any mistake being made by GM. When they come in, they get checked in by the GM part number and then shipped out.

Please check the invoice you have to make sure which vendor you got it from as I am very confident that diff did NOT come from us. You may have purchased other items from us and the diff may have been purchased from another vendor.

Furthermore, in your post you state that you don't remember where you purchased the diff from and that you have to check your credit card records. It would be nice if you did that before putting LAPD in your title making it sound like we attempted to sell you a 2.73 in place of a 3.42. We would never EVER do that! You can also email us so we can run your name through our ordering system to see if you did place the order with us.

To the rest of you that waited a long time for your tunnel plates, I apologize. We ran a sale on them and they sold out very quickly. There are more in production as we speak and they should be ready to ship out very soon. Again, I apologize for the delay.

Thanks!

Shawn

Default Good Guy to buy from.

I bought My Magnaflow exhaust from LAPD and it was destroyed by Federal Express during delivery. I called Shawn at LAPD and He sent a replacement overnight shipping at His expense and I had it the very next day. It took a couple of weeks before Federal express even picked up the 1st one that they ran over with their truck. ( Tire tracks on the box ) I have purchased other things from them and never had any problems. They did have a sale advertsed on this forum selling the plates at a very good discount price so I'm sure they just ran out of them. It is a very good company and a corvette forum vender for many years.

2 lessons have been learned by this experience.

1. Always double check the parts you receive. Then check them again. This was a particularly odd situation as the part number says one thing, and the ratio on the tag another. Must have been put together by GM on a Friday afternoon. As parts are ordered and shipped by part number, who would have thought to check the tag.

2. LAPD is a stand up vendor. They not only replied to this thread with concern for a customer, they stayed in contact with me offline and they have come up with a solution. A solution that is perfect. A solution that goes far beyond what would be expected after the amount of time that has passed.

In this world we're all a bunch humans making our way. It's a fact that we are not perfect and mistakes will be made. When you find a vendor that will step up and make it right, stick with them.
