I do have some sympathy for the guys who want to open it up on long open "empty stretches". The problem is at that speed if it suddenly become "unempty" you dont have enough time to react and who are you to decide your goingt o risk other poeples lives.

I had a buddy back in the Marine Corps stationed at El Toro MCAS before they closed it. He had a brand new Honda Hurricane 600 and was on the way back to the base at like 3AM one morning.

The road was "empty" so he decided to open it up and was well over 100mph instantly. Next thing you know my other buddy sees his brake lights flare and then a flash. When he gets there he sees my buddys bike embedded in the back of a car and a slow fire burning.

He hit the back of a car at over 130mph killing the cars passenger as well, my buddy was unrecognizable. The car had a bad alternator and little to no tail lights and by the time he saw it.........

Cars fault as well? Certainly. Point is at that speed on a public road your endangering innocent people besides yourself and its the wrong call.

Classic battle between speeders and non-speeders, young and old, hypocrites and realists.

I can honestly say that I have done some stupid things in the past like going past a semi at 180ish in my m5 at night around a slight bend. Scared me enough to only go over 100 on wide slightly downhill highways where I can see at least 1/4 to 1/2 mile ahead. There also has to be at least 2 lanes cleareance. You just have to be smart. And to all the geezers that buy vettes and fit the stereotype of people who buy fast cars and never drive fast "NOT EVERYONE BUY A CORVETTE JUST FOR ITS LOOKS"!!!!!! And with this raging hp war with auto makers you will only see more and more cars going faster and faster on the highways. It's not going anywhere at least until all the fuel is gone.
