If it's in good shape... buy it & get out before he sobers up... I would put my '97 against any C5 on this forum.... no way it would only go for $14,000....
Mines a 98 with 37,600 miles on it.
It is mistaken for a brand new car nearly every time I take it out.
In fact when I bought the car in late 2003, it was sitting on the dealers showroom floor like a brand new car. I was all too happy to write the check.
NADA blue book puts the car at roughly $25,000. Ive lost nothing.
I have around $7,000.00 in mods and I woudnt let someone sit in the drivers seat for 14k.

One of our local members (1998 GTR) just picked up a '97 Fairway Green coupe for $12k. It had a couple minor body problems that were easy to fix and the interior was filthy - the owner was a pig. He pulled the interior and pro-cleaned everything. Looks very nice now. Easily could have made it like new for $2k if he did the work himself. So, there's a $14k deal right there. They are out there.
I just called the number that was on it... Thank god for quick fingers and a cell phone. I got his voice mail, asked if I could see the car, and if he could give me more info on it. From what I saw it was clean, and the body was in great shape... but something just seems fishy... 14K is way cheep.
Get the VIN # and run a carfax on it. Then check it out. If everything checks out, BUY IT. A 97 Vette, with 52K miles sold, last friday, for $16.5K at the Tulsa dealers auction.
bought mine a year this june $17,000 59,000 miles. It now has 62000 and i have had no probelms i did do the coulmn bypass and put borlas and tint. Thats it
Weren't 1997s and 1998s plagued with quite a few problems, though? A good deal isn't good if you spend on repairs all the time. I'd check the service/repair history on it first.
not sure where you have heard that the 97s and 98s were plagued with problems . my 97 with 94K on the clock has yet to give me any trouble , and I have owned it for 2 years .
most threads i have read agree with me that the year does not matter .
now would I sell mine for $ 14,000 , he11 no !
I would make sure why the price is low , lemon , salvage , etc.. etc...
otherwise i would jump on it in a heartbeat .

**I'm definitely in this for the long haul!**
No more than any other C5.
I have a '97 with 59,000 miles and I would never part with it for $14,000. If it looks good and that is the price I'd check it out further. It could be up for quick sale or some other personal crisis. Of course on the other hand it could just be a lemon as well. I'd say real good deal if it checks out.
C5 ... 60K miles ... $14K ... If the thing is even in just decent shape ... I'd have to say, "Do not pass Go, Go straight to the bank and buy that bad boy"!
Just today I saw a 99 Torch Red with Exhaust, 5 spoke wheels, active handling and
new Nittos for $17,900 or best offer. I don't know what the milage was.
