Inside mirror removal
I am ready to mount my Escort detector up next the rear view mirror using the short wire kit that plugs into the mirror's wiring harness. I've tried to use a small mirror to see the back of the mirror but with the top windshield tint my old eyes can't clearly make out the wire colors going into the harness plug. Therefore, I guess I need to dismount the mirror from the windshield. I know on the newer C6 you just turn the mirror and its cam mount releases. What about the C5?

I was able to identify the wires by looking through the front of the windshield and then pushed the new power cord in without removing the mirror. Thought this might help.

I realize that you aren't changing the mirror, but this article on how to do that might be of some assistance. I think the mirror comes off by depressing a metal tab in the mount. When I installed mine, it seems like it snapped into place. This article does show the wire colors.....

Also - here's a company that makes a mount for the Escort for the C6 - they might have something that would work on the C5 - you'll have to contact them to see if they have any advice.....

It appears the Electrochromatic mirror is not attached with a Torx screw, unlike the standard mirror. There is a small tab at the top of the mount cap but it has very little flexibility. I can't tell if the mirror should slip up off the metal mount or down.

You don't have to take the mirror off. You can disconnect the harness from the mirror on the back of the mirror. Get a small screwdriver in there and release the tab that holds the harness onto the mirror.
