The 06 GTO that I took a ride in didn't feel anywhere near as fast as my Z. Maybe it's the 5 hp advantage I have. Oh wait, it's because the GTO is a 3700lb porker.

The 400 HP GTO is a quick straight line car and if you want to go by the factory supplied numbers (I know, sometimes not real world), it should be able to give a stock C5 a run for its money, perhaps even be a little faster. Much depends on the driver. Could be a very interesting 1/4 mile race.

I have a friend with a 05 LS2 GTO and have driven it a couple of times myself. The car just doesn't feel that fast to me. They're heavy, impossible to launch hard, but damn do they ride nice.

He's got a custom x-pipe and cat-back and a CAI on his, and we WILL be running my new Vette against his car at Atco in the near future, rest assured. His best (before the mods) was a 13.6@105. He's having trouble getting it off the line without wheel hop. If he could get it to hook up he'd be running a lot quicker. Well....that, and torque management owns any LS2 powered vehicle.

From what I've seen a C5 will take down a LS2 GTO based on weight and the factory tuning (not nearly as agressive tq management).

They do have more HP but they also have weight against them. They have a better geared rearend I believe that will help them in the 1320. It will be pretty close. If it is an A4 Vette you better have the 315s because that would probably swing it more the GTOs way. Either way, it will be pretty close depending on driver. Given the times from some of the guys on this board and I will venture to say if you can drive your vette, you have a win!

Who cares about speed... which one will get you laid more? In fact...ask your buddy how much puss he's picked up in the GTO lately!

I have 2 brothers. My younger brother and I have 00 and 02 blk Vettes. My Older brother (I convinced him to buy) just bought an 05 GTO new left over for $27000 (great price). Hes gonna drive up here from FL and we are going to a race track at the end of May. Can't wait and I'll let you guys know the results.

I use this website a lot just as a general reference to a car's stock 1/4 mile and 60ft times. The list isn't meant to be 'all-knowing' but it can be failry accurate and at least gives the general Idea.

http://www.albeedigital.com/supercou...0-60times.html

Here are some cut 'n pastes from it:

GTO
2005 Pontiac GTO LS2 4.8 13.3

C5
1997 Chevrolet Corvette 4.7 13.3
1999 Chevrolet Corvette Hardtop 4.8 13.3
2001 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 4.6 13.0
2001 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe 4.8 13.1

C5Z
2002 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 4.1 12.5

C6
2005 Chevrolet Corvette C6 4.2 12.5 (chevrolet.com)
2006 Chevrolet Corvette ZO6 3.5 11.5

Looks like between 13.1 and 13.3 for the Corvette and a 13.3 for the GTO so i'd agree, it's definately a drivers race. But, the C6 and C6Z are in a completely different category... obviously... I'd tell your miata drivin friend they're equal until they turn... then the C5 wins. End of story.

NTM I saw one the other day and almost laughed... i seriously thought it was a souped up saturn for a second... then i was like "Ohhh... its a GTO... so someone paid 30k+ for a car that ugly!! BWA HA HA HA HA"

In the end... you're driving a vette... enjoy!

Dan

Should be pretty close. The thing that holds the GTOs back is Torque Management. Ive heard of a M6 GTO with TM removed that dropped .5 sec in the 1320.

I haven't had the chance to push it against a LS2 GTO, because I've only seen them in parking lots or residential streets. I am a little intimidated by them, just because of the LS2 under the hood, but that's neither here nor there. I pulled on a LS1 GTO last year, and had him by 3/4 of a car length from 30 to 70, so I assume it would be a lot closer with the LS2.

I happen to like the looks of the new Goat, especially compared with the LS1 model. Nothing spectacular, but I think they look better than the new Stang and the Dodge/Chrysler line...

13.39@107.56 , in my 71 Chevelle, 408 big block, 4.11s M21. These #'s at over 5000 ft above sea level (Albuquerque, NM) It don't corner very well, it don't stop very well either. It does leave big black marks on the road sometimes.

Going back to high school and through today I wish I had a nickel for everytime I've heard a car described as:

"It can keep up with a Vette"
or
"It can beat a Vette"

I never got to find out ...

My girlfriend had a GTO for about three months, then traded it in for a G6. I was looking forward to putting some mods on it. She said she counldn't drive it in the winter. Woman!

I learned a long time ago that no matter who you are, there is always someone who is smarter, richer, stronger, tougher, or in this case "might have" a faster car. So who really cares. You drive a Vette!

I for one care.
I have...wasn't going to mention it, but I ran my buddies '04 with SLP LT headers and exhaust as well as a cold air intake with a short throw. Hands down, my 2000 (similiar mods at the time) walked him. I appreciate GMs choice in trying to make this the car it once was, but it isn't!

Gto has 50 more hp but also 600 more lbs. I test drove one and doesn't feel as fast . 3700lbs is alot to tote around.
