I think it works both ways. If the criminals know that the LEOs are doing this they might think twice before going to the house because the 14 year old might turn out to be a 35 year old man with a gun...

It is always offensive when someone doing something either perverted, unkind or criminal is attached to something else in their lives that is totally unconnected with the event.
The message being sent is that all teachers and corvette drivers are suspect of being the same kind of people because they either do the same job, drive the same car, or even live in the same place.
I find it upsetting whenever a sniper or some other criminal using a gun is identified as a "former Marine", but it happens all the time.
Today I'm a retired Marine, Educator and Corvette driver. If one where to take what these news people are trying to project to heart, I would be at the top of the police "usual suspects" list everytime something illegal or immoral happens.
I'm glad that the police are working hard to remove people like this from circulation. I just wish that it could be done without casting a cloud over innocent people. That of course, would require responsible journalism and I think we all know that there is too little of that out there.
