Do NOT Drink and Drive Edit: Pics now Posted on 2nd page
Because I was a victim of it this past Sunday in my 2000 Corvette which I havent had the pleasure of owning for more than 3 months. Long story short. I pull up to a traffic light, and an older gentleman rammed me from behind going 60 mph, he didnt even hit his brakes. Right now I'm hoping that this story might inspire anyone who decides to take the occasional sip and hop behind the wheel that, thats not a good idea. I am sure I will have some questions later. Pics are posted on the second page, thank you Navy08.

Hope you weren't hurt. Did they arrest this guy? Just last night I went to pick up my son from work and watched a guy a couple cars in front of me weaving all over the road, then cut right in front of the guy to the right of him and pulled into the shopping center (where I was going), slowly drove through the parking lot (mostly empty, it was late), and finally parked (no cars around him) and went into a video store, I called the cops and reported a "possible drunk driver", they dispatched a officer. I did not feel good about calling the cops on someone, BUT, if this guy was drunk I hope he rots in jail! Something was wrong with him, his driving was very erratic and scary.
Theres several health issues with me right now, but everyone was saying if it was not for my good health and physical build before the accident and young body everyone said it would have been alot worse. Right now I cant fall asleep and am waiting for some prescription pain meds to kick in... I am glad to be alive and to me thats all that matters right now. I dont know how to post pictures on the forum but if someone will give me their email I will send them a pic of what happens when a ford ranger rams a stopped corvetteif they will post it.

vetteflsurfer..............sorry to hear of your bad/good luck. the bad luck of course is that some drunk @sshole hit you & your c5. the good luck is that despite the fact that the drunk @sshole made a freely chosen premeditated attempt to kill you, you lived to drive a c5 another day.
although most say these days to "don't drink & drive"---this is still a nod & wink issue everywhere these days. despite what they say the alcohol manufacterers & restaurants/bars want us to buy, buy, buy. the servers don't make tips if they don't sell. in most urban & suburban areas the local leos could never effectively police the matter due to sheer #s of "socially acceptibly" drunks driving home. frankly, in this country, driving buzzed or drunk is an entitlement. if it's not clear, i support a b.a. level of 0.00. driving is hard enough; add boose to the equation & it's deadly.
this will never change in our lifetimes because our lawmakers (at least here in pennsylvania) seem to lead the charge with dui incidents that maim & kill the public------google tom druce & see what pops up.
.....still on the soapbox.....i have a bro in law who works in one of pennsylvania's state sanctioned (see lawmaker argument above) liquor stores & who works as a bouncer in a local club. at the store he said he never knew how many alcoholics there were. not uncommonly they are lined up @ the door when the store opens. in suit & tie they buy their vodka & right there on the counter they open their vodka & pour it into their morning coffee. by law, unless the patron is falling down drunk, their orders are to sell to the customer (see lawmaker & revenue arguments above). lastly, as for the bouncing thing, his tales of how trashed people get (leos included) then drive are horrifying. pray that none of these @ssholes come driving at your c5 or those you love. bub

Hey man, sorry to hear about that and hope you're OK. There is absolutely NO excuse for DUI...NONE! Ihave been fortunate in that no one close to me has gone through this personally but it infuriates me there are some idiots in this day and age that still do it.
Not to miminalize your bad luck, but car parts can be replaced, body parts can't. Glad to hear you're doing well
Hope you are okay and don't suffer any lasting health issues. It wasn't a drunk but a guy not paying attention that hit me in the rear end months ago. It is not a pleasant experience recovering and having your C5 fixed to drive again!!
So sorry to hear about your accident. Best of luck in recovering from what I know is a very rough accident.
My wife had a similiar accident 30 some years ago; she was hit from behind while stopped for a light. The woman who hit her was too old to drive and was trraveling at 35mph...piled right into my wife's car. My wife landed in the hospital for about 2 weeks and has had pain from the accident to this day. The older woman did not belong on the road.
It seems that our roads are getting more dangerous by the day...just yesterday I was driving along one of the main roads in our area and a group of workers were just getting off the job and driving "home". As they pulled into traffic it was as though there was no traffic; drivers had to slow down or stop for them. Then once they were on the road they changed lanes again as if no one was around--frustrating
My brother was killed by a drunk driver in 1985. I had my Elcamino totaled by a drunk driver at 4:00 in the afternoon. If you are going to drink, Don't Drive!

You did the right thing!!! Just think if you had watched this guy walk into the store and NOT called the cops... only to stick around and watch him return to his car and proceed to drive back into the street and hit a car with ANYONE inside.. A family, a man (Husband?) a woman (Wife) or a carload of teenage kids out having a great time listening to music while cruising with their friends... Whatever... If you had seen that sort of thing happen you would feel sick to your stomach instead of "not good about it". You tried to fix a bad situation... Trust me, we all are thanking you for it!! It's not easy going thru life doing what's right, but it's what we should "try" to do...
Driving drunk or impared is a bad situation that can only get worse... Unless that person luckily makes it home before hurting someone or something... I admit I did it a handful of times when younger... Anymore, I never drink more than one if driving and usually that's with a meal... Too risky and I try to think of the scenario of "what if I hit and killed a family driving home?" That's enough deterrent...
Drive carefuly folks...
vetteflsurfer, sorry to hear of your troubles man... That really sucks badly!! I hope you mend quickly and you are driving a nice new (different) C5 as soon as you can!

get yourself a good lawyer and make him pay financially. hopefully having his insurance fish out 100k will teach him a lesson.
I got t-boned by a red light runner in my WS6 and here in Florida they have a no-fault law to protect the insurance companies. I had to prove injury that lasts for longer than 6 months to get anything out of the guy who was on drugs. Even worse, to get any sizable recovery you need "obvious injury" i.e. loss of limb etc. I have a pinched nerve which causes numbness in my leg & foot as a result of the accident but x rays showed existing arthritic condition. Worse yet I was deeply in debt for therapy and hospital expenses. I did finally receive enough to pay off the debts but little else. So I hope you don't live in a no-fault state.

What did the other driver's BAC test at? I'm sure he had more than a sip.
I hate how people who want to enjoy a measley 2 glasses of wine or beer with dinner-out are made out to be ragging dangerous alcoholics who want to run down your children.
EDIT: Lowering the BAC from .1 to .08 doesn't make those with 2.3 BAC drive any safer. It does nothing but increase the number of DUI arrests for people who drank, but are far from "drunk" by any definition outside that given by the state.
