Default C-5-Center Console Problem

Just bought a '04- C-5 (Z06) and noticed that the center console (storage area) will not rise all the way up (even w/ the emergency brake off or down). It only goes up a few inches. I am afraid to "force" it up all the way. Surely this was not designed this way or was it????

Whats up w/ this? Is it common or is it a defect that can be corrected? It is certainly a pain!

Any comments or suggestions?

It's a double knuckle hinge. It's so it clears the e brake handle when it's up. Pull it towards you as you lift.

I freaked out too 4 months ago with same exact problem. Just raise it up like your life depended on it and she'll come right up. It's doubled hinged.

Default C-5 Console Problem

Good morning to all from suburban Chicago. A beautiful day here as was yesterday and the top will be off for Sunday cruising. This console problem is easy to fix. As someone stated, there is a double hinge on this thing and mine was tough to open as well. Just lubricate the hinge with WD-40 or some other lubricant and you will be able to lift it with one finger. The difference will amaze you. Try it. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

I know the problem. True, it's a double link hinge, but knowing that won't solve the problem. One drop of light oil on the hinge points will make a world of difference. Seems too simple, but it took another forum member to spell it out for me. Try it.

This is sooooo cool. All this time, I thought the cover only opened up partially. I'm going to go oil mine tomorrow!

You do have to pull up with some force to get it past the first opening position. It should go up to a 90 degree position compared to the rest of the console.
