Gee, and here I thought the right to criticize the government was guaranteed by the constitution. Silly me. I should have known that that only applied to people that you agree with.

I don't disrespect the law at all and in fact have a great deal of respect for my elders and authority. I think you seem to confuse my dissagreement with some of the laws and behavior of some of the law officers with disrespect. I am a law abiding citizen and do realize that traveling over the speed limit, racing on public roads or not wearing a seatbelt is a crime. I wear my seatbelt, don't always abide by the speed limit but never travel too fast for the conditions, same with racing, I don't street race, I used to when I was younger but like I said it was out of town on a strectch of deserted hwy, small town, was nothing better to do. I certainly never damaged anyones property, stole or as much as flipped anyone off in anger. Guess a guy isn't entitled to dissagree around here.

I have seen people seriously hurt and even killed by another person just riding in the same car as the injured party. Two heads smashing against eachother is not pretty... By the way, times have changed, there are alot mores cars on the road and a lot less open roads for street racing, and no public roadway is safe to race on. It only takes one mini van pulling out of a back street to justify what I just said...
Seen it, I'm a funeral director and have pulled many bodies out of cars and scraped them off of roads. I wear my seatbelt as do my children, I simply don't feel it's the governments position to tell people they have to. Not more cars on the road around here. We are in BFE. Don't even have a McDonalds or any chain cept a Pizza Hut. I don't believe the kids now a days race like we used to though. New breed of kids, they don't hot rod as much and we have a nice youth center now and church activities that keeps em busy.

It's protected, as is our right to criticize someone who's opinions seem idiotic to us. We're not locking him up, we're calling him a jerk.

Since I am old (59 and counting), I have a number of experiences involving police. Some were family, some were friends and some were acquaintances.
None were perfect. All were corrupt by strict standards.
That doesn't mean they were all on the take, but every one has related a tale of abuse of power to me that they chose as a course of action.
That's about nine out of nine.
Statistics majors are welcome to perform the distribution.
Now it could be that I have charmed these tales out of them or that I have more than a sympathetic ear when it comes to this subect. I am not even offended by this. It's like everything else, "Moderation in everything".
I do believe in street justice.
In order for this to take place cops need to be adaptable and rational. Sometime this can lead to excesses but on the norm should prevent stupidity and meaningless penalities. Penalties that can change the entire course of lives.

I do believe that the incredible number of laws and mandated procedures have led me to understand that the 'MAN', who enforces these inflexibly, is essentially an employee of the elite that run every other segment of this society. The same elite who can escape by having legal guns that are bigger than the one's strapped to hips.

A completely dedicated enforcer of laws would not be able to get out of the patrol station from what I have learned from these personal stories related to me. He's be busy turning state's evidence on every one else.

The question isn't whether cops are stupid or really have the good of society as their primary concern. It's whether they perform in the main with good sense. That they proceed with diligence that is DUE.

That's a good cop. I don't need any more LEOs.

For all of the perfectly honest ones, who have enforced every infraction witnessed, I'm certain your fellow officers have difficulty in dealing with you too.

Incidentally, I treat everybody who is doing their job with respect. It can be a toll-taker or a cop giving me a ticket. They hear the same salutation and farewells. Thanks and I hope the day goes well. I feel better for it. Why reward a chucklehead with a raction that they want? In turn, why punish the guiltless?

Please note, there are no insults here. Just observations and corollaries derived.

No. If you did that, you would have said "you're a jerk." Instead, he was called "a liberal jack ***." And that is what pisses me off.

I mean, someone could have turned around and called you a conservative jack *** who teaches his kids to spend more than they make, be intolerant of everyone who isn't the same as they are, and believe every bit of crap the government feeds them without bothering to research it and think for themselves. But they didn't.

Gee, feels good to have someone say that to you, doesn't it?

You want others to respect you, you need to respect them (and their opinions, even when you don't agree with them).

In Texas it would have been more like:

Officer: "Do you know why I pulled you over?"

Me: "No, sir."

Officer: "Please step out of the vehicle."

They're like robots out here. In California I could talk my way out of tickets 90% of the time. Haven't been able to do it once in Texas. I think they have to be sense-of-humor difficient as a requirement too.

Seriously though, be safe. Tickets are not cool, being arrested is not cool, hurting yourself or someone else is much worse.

I never said you, me or anyone else has to agree with everything our government does, hell I don't. But there is a difference in "to disagree" and standing in the middle of the street and protesting like a "jack ***" We all have the right to vote and to institute change, but there is a correct way to do this, not waive signs in front of our troops and call them killers for doing a job, most liberals don't have the ***** to do themselves... Man, I hate a protesting liberal jackass that thinks they have the right to do whatever and whenever they wish. I hope you don't fall in this catigory. That's the problem with our society today, They are always crying " my rights, my rights" thats why we have these rights, because our forefathers faught and died to obtain them. Protestors can kiss my " #@%"......... I'm done now.

Actually, I said "so I'm guessing you're of the liberal persuasion, and have been trained from birth to see the police as the enemy." Since he was asking "When was the last time a cop protected you?" He obviously cannot see any good in a police force. Therefore, my statement stands, as does my opinion that anyone with such a worldview is a moron.

Actually, doesn't bother me much, as most of what you said doesn't apply to me. Though it does let me know where you're coming from.

Actually, you don't have to respect them, or even listen to them. You just have no right to keep them from voicing their opinion. I don't expect someone with that mindset to respect me.

So WHAT! Lets call a spade a spade! He's "a liberal jack ***". Sounds like you are not much different!

PS- Thats all protected speech (the same protection they enjoy when they bash the cops or military troops who enforce the laws and policies of the government YOU elect!).

Oh is that what you are doing in this thread? Do the police on this forum that are reading this thread feel respected by you? I highly doubt it. Running from the police as suggested by Dantas, or complain that you are being harassed by the police as TNT Vette does, or make general statments like Stoplightwarrior does about all cops being fvcking idiots, then I would feel that the respect you guys want was not EARNED. All of you have shown your true colors. I would suggest you take a little trip to another country for a short time. Don't move there, because you would end up dead or in prison for the simple comments you are allowed by law to make here. See what true abuse of power is in a country like in Russia. The police are feared more than the organized crime mafia families!

Untill then you need to wake up and smell the coffee. If you get caught breaking the law, and you get cited or arrested for it, don't blame the police for your actions! You were not picked on, harrassed, entrapped, or forced to do anything that your little heart did not desire to do.

crzygavacho, But unfortunately Stoplightwarrior, TNT Vette, Dantas, and Craig Warner think they are that one perfect being (at least in their own minds). Maybe these guys are the same jerks in their workplace that they like to complain about! Someone somewhere (besides the people on this board) are speaking their names in anger over the way these guys treated them. It's kind of a Karma thing. If they are always receiving poor attitudes, I'd be willing to bet their's is just as bad if not worse!

There are two things in this world that I will always be proud of. The first is that I was a United States Marine, and the second is that I was a police officer for 35 years. I became a cop because I wanted to help people. Nothing more, nothing less. I never took a bribe, fabricated evidence or physically abused anyone. Did I write a ticket to everyone I stopped? No. Police officers are bestowed with a wonderful thing called discretion.

I would have never done anything to embarrass my family or friends. I would have never done anything to embarrass my buddies who were killed in Vietnam because as difficult as it may be to understand, I'm living my life for them. I wasn't perfect before I became a police officer, and I wasn't after I became one, but I did the very best I could.

Well said, dido for me. 4 years USMC, 20 years, LEO. I have made mistakes in the past and will make them again, we all do, but I have not and never will fabricate evidence or charge anyone for something they did not do, to my knowledge...

I think you made out well - not really something to complain about. Around here, you look at a cop wrong, and they're there issuing tickets for anything they possibly can. I look 18, am 22, and get treated like I'm 10, EVERY time I get pulled over, cause for some reason, every cop that pulls me over has a problem with me or my car, no matter what I do.

For those who think it's something I've brought on myself... a couple months ago, I put my clutch in and revved at a friend as I passed him, so somehow that turned into me "spinning my tires during a 45mph roll," which I got a ticket for, and I also got a ticket from the same cop for "obstruction of view" - my graduation tassle hanging from my mirror. The cop lied his *** off in court, and I was put on supervision for the tires thing.

Last week I got a ticket for spinning my tires, again, after I rode the clutch too much, so the cop assumed I was spinning tires.

Be happy with the nice cop that pulled you over.
