Default Is this normal

I have viewed this site for quite a while and have learned a lot. This is my first time asking any questions. I owned a C-1, many years ago, now I own a 1995 C-4 and a 2001 C-5. I have only had the C-5 for a short time. I was wondering is it normal when traveling on the freeway for the car to feel as though it hops when hitting an uneven spot or bump. I have never felt that with my C-4. In fact the C-4 feels more stable when driving on less than perfect roads. I have been under the car and nothing appears to be broken.

If you're running the stock Goodyear runflats, the answer is yes.

I had the same results with the original runflats on my 97. i installed new goodyear EMT' s and now the car is fine. i believe over time the sidewalls become stiffer resulting in the hop. wcj

I think its called bump steer. The suspension is quite stiff for better handling, less body roll in the corners. The tires are designed to give good gas mileage/handle well, athis is a down side of a not too sticky tire. The harder they are the better they roll. Unfortunately the car can get you to skip a heart beat or 2 when you hit a good frost heave and you are on or in a turn!!

Tires don't get stiff over time. The new EMT's from Goodyear are a new and improved design. I still would never go back to runcraps again. The first time my car hopped, it was over a manhole cover on a curve at 50mph (posted limit) and I almost lost control. Scared the crap out of me, should be some kind of warning for those not knowing to expect this to happen.

"Tracking" can sometimes be a problem depending on the particular tire design, age, inflation, etc. The Goodyear EMT runcraps, at least the earlier first generation series, seemed to be more susceptible to this.
I prefer either the BF Goodrich KDW2's (new tread design), which is what I'm running now, or Goodyear's Eagle GS-D3, which I have used in the past. The GS-D3's are not being offered in the larger sizes that I wanted, so I went with the BFG's (265/18 and 295/18) and like them very much. These two are not the only choices by any means, but I personally think they represent two of the best choices in terms of quality, handling characteristics (including rain), and price.
There are other choices out there that just don't offer enough in the way of improvement or additional benefits that warrant their much higher prices.

the vette ride is typically stiff----and i'd describe the going-over-bumps-hop as having a nervous @ss end. part of owning a c5 running on emt tires. since i don't want to get stuck out there with a flat, i'm ok w/ the runflat-nervous @ss gig. bub
