Default Steering lock disabled?

I know dealers can install a new locking plate to disable this feature. If I turn off my C5 and turn the wheel a little it "should" lock right? I am trying to figure out if the PO had the dealer install this.

The previous peerson may hav einstalled the CLB (column lock bypass) it is the most common mod on C5's due to a high incidence of column lock problems that if it occurs means a flatbed trip to the dealer...

Read the sticky at the top of the C5 tech section on column lock.
Also read the sticky at the top of the C5 General section called weights, measures, ratios etc... It is full of "must know info"

Actually the dealer removes the locking plate and yes you will be able to turn the wheel with the key removed, however that alone can't tell you if its from clb or the recall.

You dont have any details of your car in your profile.

If you have an A4 newer than 2000 it doesn't have a column lock. Otherwise, yes it should lock up unless you have a column lock bypass fitted.

Profile fixed. Thanks for the heads up. I have a 2000 Coupe.

While we are on the subject, can someone define what an "A4" refers to?

You'll see those terms a lot on the Forum
A4 is 4 speed Automatic
MN6 is 6 speed manual.

If you have a stock 00 MN6 coupe it should have a column lock fitted unless its had the recall done or a CLB.

With your VIN, any Chevy dealer should be able to tell you what recalls were performed. I registered for mygmlink and sent them an email asking what recalls were performed on mine and they responded with an email that two CLB recalls were performed.

If you can move the wheel with the ignition off, you either have the CLB or the dealer did the latest recall on it.

I looked closer at my carfax, I never even noticed this:

RC 01044 CORVETTE ELECTRONIC COLUMN LOCK N/A Closed

Thanks for all the help.
